Messaging for Expectations?

What in the name of Corporate Buzzwords is this?
"We need our Apex players to think outside the box, to find synergy, for our stakeholders."

Happy to clarify - all the messaging about Iron Crown before it launched failed to talk at all about how to obtain the skins we were showing off, and based off previous events being a different structure and scope the whiplash of seeing the Iron Crown event did not help anything. In general, just trying to say that we know we did not communicate clearly enough what to expect, and we will do better on that in the future.

As mentioned in-game and on the PlayApex.com post about the Iron Crown event - we were planning on putting these skins in the store eventually (think months, not weeks), but putting them in the store during the event was not on the table.

Call it what you want - but we didn't hold to our promise we set early on and are doing what we can to make it right. As for skin pricing, we have run promotions on skins and have found an almost zero uplift on sales numbers. The reality is that the percentage of people who actually purchase items is incredibly low and price changes do not have enough of an affect to change that. We run analytics and stats all the time to ensure we're riding the right balance, so I'm not saying price points can't change in the future - but for the time being the change we're making is to provide the Iron Crown Legendary skins in the rotating store so that the Apex Packs aren't the only way to obtain those skins.

I mean, they can not make all the skins from the event available for free by playing.

You must understand that. They need to create revenue from these events.

This.

We'd love it if the universe allowed a way for us to provide every piece of content for free, but until that happens we're going to have to charge for some portions of the stuff we make. We continue to put a hardline stance on anything gameplay related, though, and will not require players to buy anything that affects gameplay.

By all means, vote with your wallet. Reddit/Twitter/etc. are really bad places for getting real data. We get tons of information from the actual live game being played by tens of millions of people that informs us way more than you would imagine. We are honestly trying to operate this game as best as possible. If you aren't happy with what we're providing, let us know.

We'll leave that to other games that do things like provide methods to pay for power. We are not a hugely monetizing game - we just need to make enough money to keep the game going and make more stuff for everyone. When we decided to make Apex Legends a free-to-play game it was imperative that free-only players still can get access to all gameplay while also having the chance at earning the coolest looking cosmetics.

There's a whole host of decisions that get made for any event - and this event was designed differently. We screwed up by not providing agency to you guys in how you obtain cool stuff. We didn't uphold our end of the deal that we set out with at launch, so changes are coming.

Edit: what happened to all those posts talking about exactly this?

Hell no. We're humans, you know, and we will make mistakes.

My brain broke a little on stage and I forgot to mention that we're bringing a stats page in for Season 2 as well.

Nice recap, btw.

This issue in the past was due to running off an Intel integrated GPU.

Make sure your drivers are set to use your high performance GPU and not the integrated GPU. Also, make sure you've got the latest drivers installed - newer drivers detect the game and switch automatically.

Will we get more cinematic scenes like the official trailer? Lets say season opening? I would love to see more, like more about lore or game events.

We loved making that trailer and think the slice of the frontier we've developed with Apex Legends is a really cool place with interesting personalities.

Mentioned earlier, but yes - the performance drop of Bloodhound's ult should be getting addressed in a future patch. Can't promise it'll have NO performance impact, as there's a lot of rendering shenanigans going on, but it should be improved.

Apex is a very unique BR game, since it seems the only BR forcing players to play as a team. Does this uniqueness makes the development more challenging because you guys don't have any reliable precedent to follow? Do you guys still want Apex to be developed and played as a teamwork-oriented game? Or do you guys are considering making APEX more like a traditional BR game?

We definitely started out and continue to think of Apex as a team game. This specifically resulted in the development of the Legends, the ping system, and the respawn chambers. If we had taken the standard BR route of solo/duos/squads we wouldn't have forced ourselves to go down those roads. It causes a lot of headaches developing a team game, for sure, but it pays dividends when it comes to our ability to create a deeper gameplay sandbox that still adheres to core fundamental FPS mechanics.

In regards to in game voice chat, are there any future plans on improving the bitrate or codec of it?

It's frustrating to have people tell me they cant understand me when in other games the same setup makes me sound like I'm tickling their eardrum with my tongue. There's a lack of wanting to communicate with my team verbally due to this, and it hinders the experience to a degree.

We play the game a LOT and are very aware of how "awesome" our string and can system has been working. Expect it to get better in the future.
