We have just released a patch on Steam, Epic, Xbox and PlayStation platforms that addresses the bug that has, since the previous update, been causing the inventories of certain players to be wiped.

If your inventory has been impacted, please note that our efforts to restore your items are a separate process from today’s released patch. Restoring the inventory of affected players is still our highest priority, while today’s patch is intended to prevent the issue from continuing to occur. The restoration process is run via our server database and does not require a patch to be implemented. We will have news of this very soon.

IMPORTANT:

Not to mention that the balancing was butched.. Whoever's calling the shots - You, Sir, did a terrible job. Not hating on the community manager here or the game as a whole. Just in case you didn't read the balance notes, balancing is done by a team that is entirely separate from those working on game stability or debugging.

Both can be done at the same time without one taking precedence over the other.

There are only two community managers and we are spread across everything going on.

I mean, some of us « just » get a wiped inventory but still can play with the character while others can’t (are immediately disconnected as they enter the game with the character).

I read all your news but ... well, you never talk about this in particular.

In short, do you plan to restore the save file them self or just refund epic/legendary ? Do I have to level up a new character or the one unplayable will be playable again ?

Just one thing : Does your plan also concern / address the characters being unplayable in the process resulting in an inventory wipe ?

I believe that some affected characters being unplayable is actually a current safeguard that prevents further corruption of the save game.

The inventory wipe issue is a big one to grapple with so it's hard to provide definitive answers here and now, but ensuring that all characters will return to full playability is something we are doing our utmost to ensure.

We're still here - Same two community managers on Twitter, Reddit, Steam forums, Discord, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube.

There are two of us and we've had a lot to deal with this weekend as you can imagine. We've been monitoring the inventory wipes, collecting reports of it across multiple threads and platforms, building patterns that we feed back to the team attempting to reproduce such issues, on top of responding to some questions and providing the latest news on social.

Why haven't we addressed the balancing question on social yet?

Because to address such community concerns requires more than a 280 character Tweet. Any shorthand response will just aggravate annoyed players even further.

You'll want details and bigger explanations.

I'm working with the design team to write up a bigger and longer insight into the balancing process behind Outriders in-between dealing with the inventory wipes.

It's coming, but we need to prioritize.

Friends and I created alt's to try and recreate the bug to better try to avoid it, we successfully recreated the bug 4 times over 20 attempts. Friend also experienced the bug half way through the game leveling our mains.

Steps we took to recreate the bug:

  1. Alt's created and skipped through prologue to get gear faster.
  2. Joined on each other in rift town.
  3. Proceeded to start side-mission to save Shop Girl.
  4. At sign of auto save both non host players force a disconnect in our case alt-f4ing or force closing the application through task manager.
  5. Reconnect to host. (After this point if the player loaded in without any gear visible/character invisible we had a 100% success rate of recreating the inventory bug.)
  6. As soon as loading in force close the game again.
  7. Sign back in check gear.

We never successfully recreated the bug if the disconnected player loaded in and had their gear equipped or wasn't invi...

I would add in there which platform the users are playing from. I believe all platforms are being affected by this issue, but if a data pull is requested you can sort the data by platform and see which platforms are more heavily affected.

No - there is only a risk of encountering a bug that would trigger the wipe. It is not guaranteed and it is not happening to everyone or consistently, which is what makes this difficult to identify and reproduce on our side.

Sorry i had a pseudo wipe and im not sure it helps, i spent something like 30 seconds joining a random lobby and came in with no gear, everything wiped, and then 15 seconds later all my gear got restored as it was. So i didnt lose anything but assuming it autosaved at that point in time i would be ass naked atm.

It was random join, with crossplay on, in the evening of EU.

Thanks for the info - that sounds like what should happen if there is a blip with the database being momentarily unavailable (e.g. the gear reappears). I don't believe it's related to this particular wipe issue we're seeing today, but any and all information is nonetheless helpful, so thank you!

The outriders camp appears to have a higher rate of this issue occurring, but I don't believe it's the only instance where it can occur.

Single player appears to be at a lower risk than multiplayer, but it does not appear to be immune. The idea behind this thread is to continue to shed more light on this situation.
