80 years ago, from June until October of 1940, probably the most famous aerial battles in history took place known as the Battle of Britain. The Royal Air Force claimed victory in the skies, holding back the German Luftwaffe and preventing a naval invasion by denying air superiority over the Luftwaffe. Months of huge aerial engagements, intense dogfighting and fierce clashes forever sealed the event as a significant chapter in the second world war.
Brave contributions from all over the world, including most famously Polish and Czech pilots joined the fight to take on an overwhelming force that had swept through most of Europe and surrounded Great Britain.
