Retaining commonality with existing equipment is pretty much a standard in most militaries. It doesn't make it any less South African because they came from Crotale systems and developed from that.

The Merkava is also an excellent comparison. As you said, Israel took its experience with the Centurion that they used extensively, took several elements of it they liked and developed the Merkava. It doesn't make it a Centurion or British at all. Just like how South Africa had the Crotale and got their experience with it, then took it in their own direction with domestic development. A

It retained only the similar engine parts. Other than that, it was an independently developed domestic missile by Denel Aerospace Systems. Its not the Crotale and its not French.

Its like saying the Merkava is basically a Centurion because it kept the track design.
