My wife played last night and this evening said she could not find her save file. Very frustrating to have lost 4 hours of gameplay.

Could ubisoft tell me why is this case? The forums and reddit is littered with save issue.

I have this game in PC, we never encountered any problem with the save file but it crashed a crap ton.

On Xbox, it doesn't crash but you loose progress?

@abdusamed_faker Hello there. I do apologize for the frustration that these save issues are causing you and your wife. When you both realized that progress was gone, were there any error codes or any mention of corrupted saves? Or did you just notice that recent saves were missing for you?

Regarding the error code you have quoted, this looks to indicate a connectivity issue. I'd recommend running through our connectivity troubleshooting for Assassin's Creed Valhalla on Xbox Series X|S to try and address these instances of this error. Please let us know if this helps.

In terms of the progression loss, I think it would be best if your wife could contact us directly, whether here on the forums or via a support case or Live Chat, to discuss this issue directly with us. We'll need to gather some additional details from her, and if the Ubisoft Account used to play is her own, we'll need her to be the person we're in touch with regardless.

We have however seen some other players report that the missing save file issue can be a visual issue only, and that restarting the console can rectify the situation. Have you tried this, or any of our other Xbox Series X|S troubleshooting?
