I'm creating a new thread because I haven't seen this suggested in the megathread or basic troubleshooting but if it's duplicate just merge or remove or whatever, just posting this so that it might help other players.
So I've been getting these crashes randomly, sometimes they happened after an hour of playing, sometimes every 5 minutes and after trying all the fixes suggested in the megathread and basic troubleshooting without any result I was about to uninstall the game but decided to give it one last try because I have liked it so far.
After the crash, in the event viewer the logged error was a generic error that states "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found". As nvlddmkm is an nvidia controller I thought the issue might have been caused by drivers so I decided to test a clean driver update.
-The fix is basically doing a clean driver update, not only using half baked geforce experience utility update but actually removing any trace of old and current drivers and reinstalling the latest ones.
-Find and download the installer for the latest driver by manually searching the geforce site
-Dowload the display driver uninstaller from guru3d and install it
-Run the uninstaller tool and set it to display driver only and perform the cleanup and restart
-After the cleanup your pc will have a really low resolution which is expected
-Manually install the latest nvidia driver that you downloade previously
So far I haven't gotten any crashes anymore and I've been playing for hours, before doing this after I got to the England portion of the game I was getting crashes even when opening the windows game overlay to monitor FPS or when alt tabbing and no other solution worked, so far it seems the game is running stable, and I hope this helps anyone.
