I think the "explosive" mushrooms are triggered by blaster fire (as shown here), but there are also other natural elements that release poison gas by proximity such as the tongue-like one shown in the Community Update video

Dennis said they we’re going to be able to pick our faction in October. Does that mean we are going to be locked to the Clones for now, or that OT/ST is coming?
More of a long shot here, but any updates on local multiplayer? I remember Dennis saying “we have to ensure we're hitting our performance targets on all platforms”. Does that just mean PS4/Xbox one? Just curious how that’s going.

October you'll be able to play defence on each planet, right now it's only attack. Meaning you only have the option of playing one faction per planet.
Nothing on local multiplayer. It's not just console, but the vast majority of PCs are not running an i9 + 2080Ti setup.
Due to the issues we had experienced with the Community Quests these rewards were given away to all players that logged in during a short period at the end of last month.
