I get it man. The cockpits in the games to this point have always been more flashy above informative. In 1 and V we had some gauges working but they were never accurate. I know we shouldn’t expect DCS level detail but hopefully DICE at least make some instruments relay what you see outside, whether it’s a standby AI or a compass or whatever.

have a good look at the open-beta trailer, you might find some interesting details ;)

But in my case i’m actually named Kalle, no nickname here!

Oh man this hits me right in the feels. I see myself in the top, 12 years old playing the Battlefield 1942 beta with my friends. Now 19 years later I had the honor of designing the beta map for Battlefield 2042 :')

When my mom saw this she text me and said “You’ve hit the big time now!”. It was an unexpectedly wholesome moment.

Let's just hope it doesn't turn out like the Simpsons where everything becomes true.

I want to get into gaming development. Currently in my third year for Computer Science and people still say game development isn't a valid career choice lol. Video games are very popular and highly accepted now but I guess people will still say that. Any advice?

Make cool sh*t, show people it.

With so much great software available these days, with zero barrier to entry, there is no excuse not to have some experience in something.

Doesn't have to be anywhere near the scale of a AAA game, or even an Indie for that matter. Whether it's a small environment scene in Unreal, some 3D models in Blender or a mini game in Unity.

Make cool stuff, and have fun while you're doing it. Never lose the fun aspect, games have to be fun.

Best of luck on your career endeavours!

Dunno, I think Casper is maybe worse. Gone are the days of knifing a line of six camping Wookies on a hill top.

Fun to find them while they are flying their drone though.

BF1942 came out a year after I finished school (secondary/high), where they told me that game development wasn't a valid career choice and I should pick something else 🙃

Came out 19years ago if I'm not mistaken? In another 19years it'll be 2040 gulp

Watched a teammate drive a LATV4 off the top of a building today, quickly prompting a bunch of others to jump off and take the fight to the ground level, with a firefight taking place in the air via parachute. Fun stuff.

Looking forward to seeing your clips.

Would you say the maps in this game are designed more for conquest or more for breakthrough? For example I'd say bf4's maps feel more designed for conquest, while the bf1 maps feel more designed for breakthrough. Your Iwo Jima map also seems to work best on breakthrough. Can you provide any insight on this...?

Love reading all of your insights. I would love it if we can get those map designer interviews, as seen in the blog, for every map in the game

Yeah older games were usually focused on Conquest since Breakthrough wasn't a thing back then, and as you saw Iwo Jima was definitely made for breakthrough first. In BF2042 it's more of a mix. Essentially they are made for Conquest but we always strive to have a sense of journey through a map, which makes it easier to make a Breakthrough layout too :)

Well I’m in agreement in a way, I’m excited to see something new. Which is why I’m very interested to see what the community does with Portal.

Haha damn right! I'm sure we'll get the tags after launch but not sure for the beta.
