This does sound like the Offerings in the loading screen.
Players use and offering and these are shown to everyone (except the secret offerings) during the loading and they are showing as being burnt to show that they are accepted by the Entity.

Are you 100% sure he had no add ons?

Basically, something like this can be reportable if you can prove they've done nothing in the game but hide and the game did not progress (e.g. no gens were finished etc.). This is when it can become a bannable offense for holding the game hostage.

For that report them in the game and attach additional evidence in the report or send it to support: https://support.deadbydaylight.com

Do not post them on the forums, that would be against the rules for naming and shaming. They do get banned, but please keep in mind there are many reports every day that are being checked.

There are currently some issues going on and the team is working on fixing them. Once more information is available, those will be shared.

No, they definitely don't want the game to die. There are regular updates and they keep pushing out chapters every 3 months.

Back then there was some form of dc penalty, but it was more than just single DCs - I want to point that out and I have deleted the comments in regards of misinformation.

Currently this is how the system is and while it's unfortunate it was out of your hands, it still ruins the game for people who are in the round. If your internet might not be the best, there is not much the game can do sadly.

Visual bug, restart your game and it's gone.

Yes, some cosmetics were given out in error. A future update will patch them out for those who weren't meant to have them. Enjoy them whilst you have them though!
