Really would've made it less of a worry for people like myself just wanting the base game for now.

Agreed on both counts!

To be honest, when we set out to make this game we didn't plan on self publishing. While that means that we don't have to split the proceeds with a publisher, it means we have to figure out all this stuff ourselves. So it's a learning process for us.

I have mostly been playing singleplayer during our development. Occasionally with friends. Even then, many of us have been building our own buildings in little villages.

The game is heavily focused around coop or singleplayer gameplay.

We are even adding an entire "solo" talent tree, for those who want to specialize their character for playing alone.

Note:
1. Standard will receive 1 x Outpost accessible
2. Deluxe will receive and *additional* 2 x Outposts to choose from.

We don't want to gate *functionality* behind the deluxe edition.

We originally had thought to have it in the marketing for the differences, but it got very cluttered.

Also; I think we might change the wording of Deluxe edition to *supporters* edition. As we plan to provide lots more to it over time, and it was designed for our super-fans in discord and such in mind.

What if when you get far enough along, when you have a decent amount of cash etc, you could put down Insurance? Bounty? Escrow? and if you miss your drop ship, that money gets put up as a mission, and a group of players can accept the mission and try to find your unconscious body and "Rescue" you and return you to that station, and if they do they would get that payout?

Seems like a cool thing to do with cash and give other players some optional end game content and interaction...obviously the mission would be hard, and they run the risk of dying themselves...but would probably be fun and rewarding.
This is a clever idea, thanks for bringing it forward!

Hello!
We are self publishing.
Microtransactions were among our concerns of Icarus being a F2P title. Monetizing a free game can be very tricky to get right, not to mention the amount of resources it takes from the dev team to constantly add new content and items.
This is just one of the many reasons we are glad that we became a premium purchase, so we can keep developing on Icarus' core gameplay experience and build upon that through our DLC's.

Hey all,

We aren't looking at our DLC's as a "paywall" but are adding them to compliment our base game. We want your journey to evolve over time, and keep you engaged and interested! :)

I know I prefer a pause button on all single player games (it's usually not healthy for me to ignore my household :) ) and I'd prefer the pause to delay the session timer as well. That still allows the lore to work, time just isn't passing while the game is off.
You do have a fair argument! However, sometimes we can't have exactly what we want in the video games we play. I'm hoping that once you get your hands on the game that you'll be able to see how flexible and non-restricting the session timers can be!

No, the session timers are set to tick down and run out :) that seems like an interesting idea, though.

We know going outside of the particular area has some humans freak out so I'm assuming the majority of them have never ventured to far out. We have forest/snow/desert biome are these done by humans?

I hope they do a lore documentary every major release (the doc was quite good) so it's like an on going thing with players discovering lore then we get the videos of new discoveries.

Also it seems you have the option to go back to earth if you get exotics? since you can become a billionaire (why would the human want to keep risking their life)

curious who is writing the lore of icarus and how everything works, breaths, lives...so it all makes more sense.

Glad it makes more sense now! Once the game is out, I think that's when folks will truly understand and appreciate the mechanic!

Even a PVE game can be ruined by bad monetisation i think. Making a F2P means guessing exactly how big your market is, and pricing part of our game so that you can make enough from that market to cover your costs.

More and more we just felt like the F2P aspect was causing us issue and we didn’t feel comfortable with how we were looking to approach it.

We feel much more comfortable with a game priced at a modest price point which is where we are now.

As far as lore is concerned, we have only made known a small portion of it so far. We're planning on releasing more world-building lore. We definitely want the community to make sense of what's going on. There is a balance to be found between game play oriented folk and lore oriented folk.

Think early gold-rush prospectors. In my mind sci-fi explorers are well-funded, heading out with plenty of supplies and some top-of-the-line gear. These people are almost considered expendable, a gamble even. Being sent at as little cost as possible but with the hope of large returns if they are successful.
