These forums are a place for you to interact with the developers and other players. That requires a high level of civility, understanding, and respect to maintain. What this space is not is a place for you where you are entitled to broadcast whatever opinions you may have without consequence.

Think of this space like the front of house in a Restaurant. While we welcome feedback, even when negative and passionately so, if you “speaking your mind” becomes disruptive or unwelcoming; then you may be asked to leave.
This our studio space and we actively moderate this area and encourage our staff to frequent it and interact with you. As such, we are legally obligated to protect our staff from harassment and unwelcoming behaviour.

Posts that are derogatory towards staff members will result in bans. Harassment or threats will be reported to the police

Originally we had a vision of doing a PVP mode as our third major expansion. But it is very expensive to do, because to do PVP properly you have to deal with antisocial behaviour such as hacking. That means rewriting a lot of systems to be server authoritative, and integrating a lot of checks and balances.

Icarus has built a great community and done well, but not sold enough for us to be able to invest in developing that without sacrificing on the work we want to do to improve the base game.

So we have focused our efforts on improving the base game, our PVP ambitions might have to wait for another game. We don’t want to do PVP survival unless we can deliver a really good experience.

It is chosen to differentiate our significant content updates from hotfixes and other updates. This makes it easy for players to see what the actual content updates are for the game, versus the hotfixes.

This was the standard chosen during the beta weekends, when we had not planned the break-neck pace of weekly updates. The weekly update cadence would only be adopted later.

This is also standard for our other games at the studio, it is just only Icarus that currently does major updates every week.

We did look into what it would take to upgrade to UE5.

Unfortunately many of the things we are doing are custom additions we made to UE, and some of those would need to be redone. Additionally, a lot of our art work would need to be redone to make use of nanite, etc...

This would be very, very expensive - probably 25 to 50% of the cost it was for us to make the game.

But we have been thinking about improving the “hardcore” mode and I thinking bringing this back and making it even tougher for that could be in the cards

In 80% of cases it will just work fine, but due to most of the Styx Missions & Many Olympus missions being adjusted and cleaned up and converted into operations there is a chance that some quests have changed and may have blocked progress in some cases.

This week we will be releasing Hypatia - Styx Operations Due to the conversion process of some missions to operations some existing prospect saves on missions for Olympus & Styx may not be able to be completed in their old state.

So we have provided a branch on steam that will keep the current build on before this weeks patch so you can complete your missions before switching over.

Icarus(pre-hypatia)
We suggest you swap to now if you do not want to be interrupted when the patch goes out this week on Friday NZT.

This way when you have finished up your existing mission you can swap back to the default branch to get the update.

How To Switch Branches
  1. Right clicking on Icarus in Steam
  2. Selecting Properties, this will open a window
  3. Select Beta's
  4. Use the drop down box to select the branch you want - in this case it is pre-hypatia

- Updating dynamic mission and component locations fallback spawning locations so they do not reference the old T2 communicator
- Fix a typo in mods detected description

Steam is often corrupting the game files while downloading updates. Note that verifying game files does not seem to fix this.

You need to go to the install directory, then uninstall the game, and ensure all the files are deleted. Then reinstall the game.

It is a very annoying bug we see quite often with how steam is applying game updates.

Note we deliberately have not encrypted the files so that, if people want, they can easily award themselves the DLC. This is in line with our studio policy of not including DRM wherever possible. It is very easy to bypass our DLC restrictions, and this is intended.

This is also why we were so confused with the tone of your other thread, as we believe we do everything we can to be consumer friendly.

Yes, in fact we have a new animal almost ready to go. We plan to significantly iterate on how mounts are in the game, as well as introduce new mounts. A new mount might be next weeks update (not this week, but the week after). Note this plan might have to change.

We are targeting 1 - 2 months internally. I must stress though this is subject to change. Currently we believe the remaining work is relatively straightforward, but it will depend quite a lot on how our testing goes.

Regardless are really excited we will be able to bring the missions inside of the open world experience for Olympus and styx. I think styx is underrated, and this I think will really bring that beautiful map out.

We will include additional estimates and updates in each of our weekly update posts as we proceed with the work.
