Hotfix Version: 0.5.0.76930 has been deployed with a CONFIRMED fix to the "039"/"037" error
To ensure you have fix, check the version in top right of menu ends in 76930. If not, try "verify cache".

NOTE: We are changing the option to use DirectX 12 from 'Experimental' to 'Unstable' to better represent it's state. You should only be using this if you are trying to solve a problem that you've hit a dead end on, as a last resort. Please use DirectX 11 otherwise

Hotfix Version: 0.5.0.76910 has been deployed for the Icarus Beta
This contains balance changes - but does NOT yet fix the "037" or "039" errors - we are working on that now and I will update.

If you are receiving an infinite 'preparing geometry' loading screen, this is also tied to errors 037 and 039 which we are working on

If you are NOT experiencing the "037" error, you can download the advance beta build that has the balance changes, by typing "bearsarefriends" to open up "bw2test" in the beta off the app.

Otherwise, the full update that fixes the 037 error will deploy to the main beta branch in ~30mins. It's uploading to steam now.

Perhaps - the error is the default text for an error, so the text is "wrong". It's a timeout caused by the game taking longer than it expected to load in, and timing out with the server trying to send it data to make the prospect. We have a fix, testing it.

We are certainly fixing the "can't make a prospect" 037 error.

Im watching them fix it right now @Moobs. Once the fix is committed, we will test it and then i'll post the results of that here. If we can confirm it works, and doesn't break other stuff, we will push it live.

We are preparing a hotfix with:
* Some fixes for connection issues some are experiencing (those who don't seem to be able to make a new prospect, but can join their friends)
* Lowering the bear spawn rate a bit (a lot of bears were spawning)
* Nerfing infected/festering wounds, as they were extremely punishing for lower level players
* Increasing the ladder "stack" size - how many ladders you can stack on each other
* A lot of other small little balance tweaks.

Will be testing internally, then deploying. Target is within two hours of this post, but subject to change.

Hey all! Please find below a shortened version of our overall patch notes for Beta Weekend #2. This will provide a more detailed breakdown of some of the other changes we've made.

Many bug fixes and optimizations:

  • Fixed mineable voxel rocks (metals, oxite etc) respawning when you reload a saved prospect.
  • Fixed a bug so animals can no longer see through cave walls or structures.
  • Fixed an issue where characters could become locked out of a prospect due to incorrectly being flagged as having left via dropship.
  • Fixed an issue where it was impossible to place items or structures on ground previously occupied by broken building pieces.
  • Animals will no longer attempt to walk through space occupied by player dropships.
  • Fixed a problem where characters could end up in a ‘bad state’, preventing them from starting new prospects.

This will be a thread of known issues for Beta Weekend #2, with possible solutions, workarounds and status updates.

1 - You may encounter error 037 during this beta weekend! Don't worry, you do have friends and this error is lying to you. What is actually happening is your character is failing to initialize when joining a drop, this is on us and is a known bug. Simply trying again until it works is the best way to solve this one.

Update: WE HAVE A HOTFIX INCOMING FOR THIS BUG.

Much improved. We fixed the things we know about, with one or two "ahhhh" bugs that we have been unable to reproduce - but think are still out there.

Hello everyone!

I want to start off by saying how encouraging and humbling it is to see so many passionate players and members taking to these forums to chat about all things Icarus! We see all of you who are contributing constructively, openly, positively and helping answer other players’ questions too.

Having said that, we are noticing some unnecessary, harmful, disrespectful hate speech and criticisms across our discussion channels and forums.

We are and have always been open to conversations around where we need to improve Icarus - that’s the point of our Beta Weekends. A solid and strong community should feel they have the room to provide us with both criticisms, affirmations and everything else in between. However, some of these newer posts and comments (and particularly personal attacks on individuals) just have no use for us as a company, and are debilitating for our wider community who support Icarus and our RocketWerkz team.

I can certainly understand the frustration.

From a development perspective they have been very useful, because:

1. It reduces the "beta fatigue" of the players, but exposing small parts of the game instead of all of it at once - with each of the parts not having the benefit of time to address any faults.
2. Allow us to focus feedback into specific components in isolation, with time between to address that feedback before getting feedback on the next piece of the game.
3. Let us have focused development time without distractions, we're not "rushing to fix a bug" or trying to help customers out with the game and problems - we observe in the weekend and then have two weeks of focused work.

I think that's a little reductive, they gave a detailed overview of some important key points. I think we could differ in interpretation, but I would certainly agree that:

* The character customization is severely lacking
* The Beta map area was very small
* Much of the beta mechanics felt a little... boring?

I suppose though that was somewhat of the intention of the beta, to focus on the ground of the game and build from that.

I just think its vital we don't dismiss concerns raised like this because its "only a beta". We need to acknowledge them, and then hopefully address them in subsequent beta weeken... Read more
