We talk about this a lot internally. At a high level, we like changes that make the current battlefield state more obvious, and we want to avoid anything that makes (or suggests) "the right decision" for the player. (At least where that decision is interesting or strategic; auto-tap is an example where we'll make some simple decisions.)

We just deployed a fix for the two broken decks, so all decks should be working now. Sorry for the error!

and of course my quest today is blue and white spells. Sigh.

Good news, then! This is fixed now, and Jeskai & Azorius are back on the menu!

There's an issue with 2 of the decks missing a card. The issue's been brought up directly to an Arena staff member to be fixed, per the Discord

True facts. The Jeskai and Azorius decks have content issues that mean they won't pair properly. We're working right now to see if we've got a window to fix it before the event's over

Edit Wed AM: We just deployed the fix for this; all decks should now be working. Sorry for the error, and thanks for your patience

Hi Jay! Weird question but did you folks consider swapping the ally fetchlands in MH3 for the MH2 enemy ones?

We did talk about this a good bit, yes. In the end, we decided that keeping parity between Arena and Tabletop drafts of MH3 was more important. But we understand that there are a number of players who are looking for those other 5 fetches

Isn’t it the opposite? That it’s popular, but the deck wins about the same share of games that other top archetypes do? That’s the most intuitive reading to me, at least.

This is what we meant, yes. It's a standout in play rate (what percentage of players are using the deck), but its win rate doesn't stand out. It has a fine win rate, but so do a lot of the other top decks in Timeless

Seems like a mistake to not ban Mana Drain. Going to lead to a ton of non-games when the opponent just counters your 3 drop and suddenly has 6+ mana on like turn 3. Way too swingy for a 1v1 format that isn't Timeless, IMO.

No prebans definitely doesn't mean we won't be making any bans. Mana Drain is a heck of a card, and we're planning to keep a close watch on it wherever it's legal. We may well end up needing to take action, but we'll make that call based on what players show us

Mana Leak and Reanimate are banned in Historic which means they’re  banned in brawl (I think)? So it’s only legal in timeless? That makes the bonus sheets a lot less exciting.

Brawl and Historic have different ban lists. All of the bonus sheet cards are legal in Brawl.

No bans mentioned for brawl.

To state it explicitly: there are no prebans for any of these cards in Brawl

MKM packs for April season rewards? Seems like a typo…

Good catch; that is a typo. Season rewards for April will be Outlaws of Thunder Junction packs

Edit: The article is now corrected here

Are there any plans to revamp or at least tweak the Brawl matchmaking in response to all these new cards?

I ask because with the current deluge of powerful cards, and Modern Horizons 3 at the... uhh, horizon, the ability for janky and mid-tier decks to compete is rapidly diminishing. It would be a shame for the format to turn fully competitive when its main strength is its sheer diversity.

We're actively discussing this. The goal for Brawl matchmaking is to let players come in with whatever kind of deck they like (including janky & mid-tier nonsense) and give them a fun and fair match. We have tools we've talked about a bit here for Commanders, and we will continue to monitor how the composition of the 99 are impacting things there.

All the Special Guests are coming to Arena with OTJ, and all of OTP and BIG as well.

Edit to clarify a bit further: OTJ limited packs on Arena will match tabletop. Store packs will include cards from OTJ, OTP, and BIG. We'll be providing full details soon.

We love running Opens, and we love that players are excited for them. But they do require a good bit of behind-the-scenes work to run and coordinate, which limits how many we can run each year. We've been steadily raising this count, and now we're up to around 10 per year, but that does mean there will be some months without an Open.
