Hey everyone!

We’re back with another Experimental mode focused on testing some changes to Soldier: 76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle. As with all Experimental modes, these changes are not guaranteed to reach the live version of the game.

What are we trying to address?

Compared to other hitscan Damage heroes, Soldier: 76 has been perceived as one of the weaker choices in heroes, so we want to test some adjustments to change this. Rather than making some numbers adjustments, we’d like to test out an overhaul to his shooting mechanics.

What are we testing?

In the past, we introduced bullet spread to Soldier: 76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle to make the weapon centered around controlled bursts. In this Experimental mode, we’re shifting the weapon to instead be centered around recoil and weapon control. While the change list may be short, we’re hoping that this will breathe new life into Soldier: 76’s playstyle.

We hope you check ou...

The spread changes not going through for Reaper is indeed a bug.

As part of our ongoing effort to ensure Overwatch provides the most welcoming environment possible for players, we’re making some changes to our penalties against players reported for inappropriate language—as well as making a few changes to our profanity filter to give players better tools to manage what kind of language they see in their games.

Improved Profanity Filter

The profanity filter in Overwatch currently provides players with two basic settings: on or off. However, this doesn’t account for players who might be OK with seeing more mature language in party chat with their friends, but would rather filter such language out when chatting with players they don’t know. In order to give players more control over the types of the language they see and the situations in which they appear, we’re making some updates to the profanity filter, which are now available for testing on the Public Test Realm (PTR).

Instead of a simple “on/off” profanity filter, there ...

overwatch does not use any analysis of chat (voice or text) for matchmaking.

without going overly into details, overwatch match makes on:

--your matchmaking rating (MMR) - this is mostly affected by win/loss, with variance applied for certain conditions (i.e. brand new player, among other things)

--your region

--your ping

again, that's overly simplified. but that's basically it.
