For 2 reasons:

  1. It was actually a very common complaint among fans for being really bad. Like, one of the most common complaints over the years.

  2. The reason for 1 is that wasn't very "Continent-y". So, that's what we did, make the "Continents" map into something that better aligns with the name.

Of course, the game has been played on the old, "not really very Continent-y" map for so long that people aren't used to the new one. The old map has flaws, often with spawns and resources, and we wanted to fix them by throwing it out and redoing it entirely.

There has been talk about moving Perfection/Domination over to Lakes, which is similar, but that's not confirmed.

Officially, we consider "exploration" part of the Polytopia experience. After all, it is one of the 4 X's in the 4X genre.

Yes, it's new. You can use an ally's ports.

So, the large majority of fans seem to agree that Polaris is currently lower tier and Bombers and Kickoo are OP. They also seem to agree that Bardur isn't all that bad, and that the nerf did its job to balance them.

I don't hate it by any means. Still one of the best games I've ever played and I've put in thousands of hours. I just find it harder to play now that it takes soooo long to get populations up per village. I like the new boats but I'm finishing games at 30 in perfection and barely pulling in 50 stars a round. Still love it though it's just a MUCH slower paced game, now.

We're just going to need time to fine-tune things.

"Too fast" is also a problem.

We're still in the process of supporting it, and we ask that you stick with it after it gets a few patches.

We're currently working on improving the map generation and looking at the Market and Bomber, for instance.

Nah, it just never came up. Not including one wasn't a conscious decision - we just never added one.

I can also say that we're going to be releasing a patch for the map generator pretty soon, while also maybe doing a few rounds of balance passes for the naval units.
