Yeah nothing like shooting a wooden door frame and the bullet not going through. Definitely realistic especially when using a DMR.

I think it has to do with the fact items have varying types of density and are made from different materials. It's just another way to add a bit of realism in the game. :)

I think at the half way mark they should add the maps into the pool.

I think that could be a good idea. Personally I feel it puts teams on an even playing field since it'll require all players to learn the map in a Ranked setting.
