A friend gave the kiddo a "warmie", which is a stuffed animal you stick in the microwave to heat it up.
Every time we use it, all I can think of is the hamster in Maniac Mansion.....
It's always a good time for the Why Cheap Art Manifesto!
Was thinking about how 20 years ago, building an MMO, scaling it to thousands of concurrent players on the same server shard with real-time physics and so on wasn't considered that hard. Player housing on the other hand? Huge scary undertaking!
Nowadays, it's the reverse.
Our heat has been out for the past 4 days of 10F-20F weather.
I'd like to thank the abundance of wool and down in the apartment and my mother who kept the thermostat at 58F (and brought it up to 60F when we had guests) to show me how to stay warm.
Reading with the 4 month old: She did NOT enjoy Saul Bellow's Adventures of Augie March. @neilhimself's Neverwhere, on the other hand, is landing much better. It's probably because my impressions for Great Depression-era Chicago are not as good those for Fantasy London...
My whole apartment is white noise.
Baby napping room: white noise machine Wife napping in bedroom: white noise machine Den/office: host of computers humming away Cooking in the kitchen: exhaust fan
It's at once both soothing and deeply unnerving.
This is why I’m only a 1%’r in other people’s games. https://twitter.com/TFT/status/1492174091305979907
In our newest TFT article, Talking Tactics: The Game Dev’s Dilemma, @Mortdog reflects on the expectation to be highly ranked as a dev. Check it out at: https://t.co/uRazWJJIwt https://t.co/KXsPxjmOGs
My HS Latin teacher would be so proud. In struggling to communicate with the cooing baby, I have taken to running her through declensions which do shocking work as standins.
I really never expected to see (hear) this
Maybe the most sought-after artifact in the whole of post-rock, if not music as a whole, and some dude on /mu/ just uploads it at 3am? Christ alive. https://t.co/g3tN98V80E
Managed to change a diaper and put the kid down for a nap during a 90 minute meeting with only an imperceptible amount of spit up on me.
I truly am the man who has it all.
A good reminder that if some part of your comp is in equity, learn how it works so you get a sense of its value in various scenarios and how long they might take. https://twitter.com/Vahn16/status/1488595024845627395
sony is planning to buy bungie employees out of equity in the company, which will result in healthy paydays for many. but there's a catch: 50% when the deal closes, 50% in a few years. one employee described the plan as "golden handcuffs" https://t.co/szutHIH9Eq
(So we're clear, that was like top 10 in the world... granted the "world" was probably only a few hundred people back then but do not yuck my yum.)
Alright Sony, time to bring back Myth. Getting a Half Moon on is still my pinnacle esporting achievement.
I’d enjoy talking about “wake windows” much more if they were called “uptime” instead.
I realize this has an audience of like 3 people and I’m okay with that.
You can't argue with math
This is probably the best powerpoint slide I've made/ever will make https://t.co/0LM1yRWxFu
Day 3 of waiting for @FedEx to pick up a package. I’ve resorted to putting a giant fake box on the porch with a big sign on it because the previous two days they told me “the package wasn’t ready” despite the numerous notes on the order. I am not hopeful but I am entertained.
After 20+ years, it's a terrible path to intentionally follow but in summary: "Be lucky and know people, play a lot of game(s), and convince everyone you know what you're talking about even if you probably don't."
During the interview, I was full of the over-confidence of youth and proceeded to tell them ALL my thoughts about the game and how I'd make all these aggressive changes to core systems. Maybe my enthusiasm tricked them into hiring me as a Content Designer for a whopping 30k/yr.
I was taken around by HR to the different departments and she would ask them if they needed anyone. "Server programmers?" "Nope." "UI programmers?" "All good." "Gameplay programming?" "We're all set." Finally we get to design, and they shrug and say, "sure."
She said that I should apply with them so I sent my programmer resume along with her and quickly got brought in for an interview. The company was small and disorganized though and they didn't know what I was applying for or if they had openings.
