The very first closed testing invites will be going out soon
Will we know when all the invites for this round has been sent out? So I can know whether I got in or not. :)
We’ll be sending invites out in waves—if you don’t get in at first, you may still get in for a future testing phase.
Will we get any kind of gameplay videos from FGS by the time of the closed alpha?

Since the first phase is under NDA, is it fair to assume that only people from the US will participate? (since it'd be easier to enforce the NDA)
We will be inviting playtesters from around the world as it’s important for testing purposes.

We don't know. The folks at Frost Giant don't have anything new to tell us, and are only giving signs of life by sharing some new art every couple of weeks, so that there isn't complete radio silence from them, which would make us worry.
We'll get new info when they're ready to share it.

That's awesome to hear! Good thing I totally wasn't the one leading the charge on trying to piece together an image of the UI earlier in the year or anything. That guy would definitely, totally not get a key or something.

The current plan is for the upcoming closed testing period to be under NDA and not streamable.

Will it be all three races? If so, can we expect to hear about the third race in the next month?
Our first testing phases will be focused on 1v1 and the human faction. We’ll add other factions and content over time as we continue development.
I hope the team thinks they are as far with the project, as the project manager thinks they are. 😜

It's always scary to put unfinished work out there, that's for sure!
That said, Stormgate development is going very well and the team is behind the plan to begin limited external testing in July. That way we can get the critical playtester feedback that will help us make Stormgate the best game it can be.
As for binge-watching our game . . . you'll need to continue waiting on that. Sorry!

This might sound dumb but could there also be closed campaign alpha testing?
It would definitely show exploits and help fix super cheese + maybe some map design feedback and suggestions could be made regarding story.
Though I would only choose streamers who are popular and deal with RTS lore in games like Warcraft or StarCraft for this, as a story leak would be critical and likely would happen with anonymous users, unlikely to occur with a few trusted streamers.
Plus their feedback would be more important as they know what makes good story and lore.
The initial phases of closed testing are focused on our core RTS gameplay and 1v1 -- the foundation upon which the rest of the game is built. We'll be adding more features to our testing phases as we continue development well into next year.

We are going to want a healthy variety of players for our closed testing phases. There's definitely an element of randomness, but we also aim to include players with a variety of RTS experience levels (definitely not just pro players or streamers), hardware configurations, hailing from different regions, and so on. We'll also be reserving some playtest invites for giveaways and other promotions.
The Frost Giant team is incredibly grateful to our Reddit community for being so supportive, so I'm happy to share that we're also setting aside a few closed testing invites for some of the more active members of r/Stormgate as our show of thanks.
