Please make a new thread there, and attach the problem save and the mods in use.

Good luck!

That pdx_settings.txt is only partially there, not seen that before! Nor do I get that permissions error running ck3.exe - something outside the game is wrong here!

Would you say you are having issues with other games or apps?

Try this Windows repair tool:

Update that nVidia driver to June 2023 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:

Your Intel Xe driver is from 2021, and the game is crashing in that driver:
+++ WER6 +++:
Fault bucket 1944783851554197777, type 5
Event Name: BEX64
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:

Please check with HP for a newer one. Failing that, Intel https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

Those 'errors' are normal, everyone gets them. Your problem is elsewhere.

Delete that empty system.log file and try the game aain. Even if it fails, does it make a new log now with something in it?

And I see in that pdx_settings.xt file you've chosen the Vulkan renderer. Why was that? Make it DX11, disable Vsync, and cap the refresh rate at 60.

We see errors in nVidia modules in there, so let's do a clean update:

- uninstall with this https://developer.nvidia.com/cleanup-tool
- reboot
- install June 2023 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- reboot again

THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optim... Read more

We can't help with modded games here I'm afraid. Does this happen with a new unmodded galaxy?

If not best to post in User Mods, and specify what mod(s) you are using there.

Unlike Steam MS provide no way for us to distribute older or alternate game versions, I'm afraid.

Run ck3.exe from File Explorer directly, do you see any Windows error then?

If not, Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Bluescreens are always Windows, driver or hardware faults. Not a good sign! Next time you get one record the text on that screen, which will help pin down where the problem is.

When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

That error log shows a lot of localisation errors - are you using a language mod or something?

If not that looks like a corrupted install. How that could be after doing a reinstall I'm not sure! Did you delete any remaining files in the game installation location, and under Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/ , before reinstalling?

I haven't seen other such reports, as yet anyway. If you revert to a previous nVidia version does that fix it for you? If so best to report that to nVidia.

TealCat said: So I am looking for a way that will reliably tell me if something I did in my current save would unlock a certain achievement, independent of whether I had this achievement before in an older save game.

I am not aware of any such facility in any of our games, I'm afraid.

I frankly have no idea what it is about this machine or Windows setup that is causing this to you. Clearly the game thinks there's a controller there when there isn't ...

Can you swap your mouse and keyboard for ones from elsewhere , just as a est?

If it still happens, make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it wth that. Does it still happen?

I'm not sure I follow you - you can only ever get any achievement once ?!? I must be misunderstanding something!

If you installed Windows 11, it does that by default I believe. It's nothing to do with this game as such! As grotaclas says it just follows what Windows is set up as.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Then I have no explanation for your problem! It doesn't match doing a save , as that would happen whether Ironman or not, although to a different folder. As would doing in-game calculations, they are the same in Ironman and non.

Could your antivirus app be doing realtime scans of the Steam folders but not the Windows user Documents folders?
