This is a "True-ism" as it can be argued with all ships on your side vs the red team. Not that I disagree with @Wye_So_Serious

As a DD Main, I am not seeing "Hate" as much as frustration. A well-played DD is SUCH a boon to your team. They spot, they cover friendlies with well-timed smoke, they screen friendly ships, and that is even before they way in with their guns and torps. The key is "Well-Played." But even with that being said, a great DD Player can be caught out by a great cruiser player. And they in turn by a great BB Player. ]

In the end, I think "Hate" is not the correct word, but perhaps frustration would be better?

The frustration about the DD may indeed be its stealth capacity and big punch ability but I would argue this is balanced by their fragility.

This actually leads me to ask, is the skill cap higher in relation to playing DD's well vs other classes?

Thanks for sharing and posting this @AdmiralPiett

@HazeGrayUnderway , the effectiveness of the USS submarine fleet is often forgotten by many. But the effect they had on the Pacific theater was massive and can not be underestimated.

There is a fun moment when playing a destroyer when you can set up a "near perfect" torpedo spread. When all the setup and prep leads to max damage or better yet, a "two-fer!" Looks like @SansPeur may have picked one up here.

These moments are the ones that make playing DD's a joy, IMO. Thanks for sharing the pic sir and hope you continue to wreck the redships

I think the whole "Armored Cruiser" argument is an interesting one but I believe that it should likely be classed a BB. Especially with that gun layout. Regardless, I would love to see another amazing historical ship in-game.

Or do others think the Blucher should be classed as a Cruiser if it ever comes to the game?

Good morning @iofhua

It is ok to bring up an older thread, especially one with great history and research as @dseehaferhas delivered.

FYI, I have moved this thread from the general discussion over to here, as to this is a better long term home.

Thank you for the article the information @LoveBote. I find it interesting that even in the 80's the Gearing , in it's latest configuration was still able to provide a very capable ASW role. A great many of the WW II ships had amazing bones and basic structures that passed the test of time. Here is the link to more info on the Py aka DD 877 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Perkins_(DD-877)

Great to hear @FuBard123, as others have said, if you can get 1 vs 1 against another BB you will find one of the Massachusetts strengths. All the best sir

Nice video @Gyphon_GF.

Really good job of demonstrating and using the strengths the Z-39 brings to the table. Looks like your "Prep" for ranked sprint is well underway.

World of Warships is a big and complex game, and several things are being worked on at the same time. While the team responsible for maps and modes develops beats like Rogue Wave, it does not mean everything else is put on hold. On the contrary, we've been incrementally updating the CV and anti-CV gameplay almost each update, e.g. in 0.8.5 AA DPS is being changed for better consistency, and right now the team is finalizing AA priority sector redesign. At the same time, FR DD are being tested for release, and there is a stream of various fixes each update, etc, etc.

It's important to understand it is not possible to switch the whole team to one task, ignoring personal specialization (i.e. nothing good will happen if we ask 3d Art to work on UI performance instead of creating ship models).

Good afternoon @FuBard123

Sorry about your frustration at the USS Massachusetts. The answers above, thank you all, have pinpointed the biggest issue. You need a very specific specked Captain to get the most out of her.

That requires an investment in your time to grind the needed XP. As @The_first_harbinger said, if you have the NC or the Alabama it can help you in this process.

IMO, it is worth the effort to get her as when it works, IT REALLY IS FUN to play it.,

Best of luck sir

Thanks for bringing up Rear Adm norm Scott, @BlueByYou. You are correct in the fact there is little out there about Scott. I dug a little bit and found just basic accounts of his career. I would suggest perhaps creating a separate thread about him, as to draw in others who might have more info and resources on him.

On your first point, I think it best to celebrate these epic crews and their captains based on how they dealt with their unique situations and challenges they found themselves in. You're dead on, IMO, about how the Commanders you mentioned from Taffy 3 and Rear Admiral Scott were "unrecognized" until more recently. I hope if others have more info on Scott that please share it for those of us seeking more detail on this epic Admiral.

Curious, did you play multiple types of ships, grind a specific line, or stick to premium ships? Was there a "Favorite" ship you use for the competition?

Again, Congratulations sir

Getting an O class DD into Pan-Asian ships would be interesting. But should it be tier 7? If you want it with guns of the Galant and torps of the Lightning would it not be better at tier 6? Tier 7 for Premium DD you have the Haida, Z-39, Blyskawika, Sims, and Leningrad who all would outrange the Galants guns by 1.5 to 2.5 kilometers. Where at Tier 6, it's possible play style as a stealthy Torp vote could be a fun variation. Curious for your and others thoughts @GrandAdmiral_2016. Thanks for bringing this ship up as it does pose some fun questions. Also, the O class looks a great deal like the Tribal Class IMO.

Good morning @Ramagar_RoK,

Both @XurMPand @_RC1138have the info right on the best reload speed. Thank you both for that.

Could the Fletcher you were playing against have been alternating firing 1 set of tubes and then the second 30-40 seconds later? Alternating the shots? I have used this strategy when I was "Strategically Departing" an area at high speed. If you do have concerns please send in a ticket and with the replay, if you have, or any data you have in, please.

Thank you for the suggestion and feedback. The USS Johnston would be amazing to see in-game. It, the USS Hoel, USS Heerman, and the Samual B. Roberts, demonstrated the courage and determination that is the very best of the US Navy. they and their crews are finally getting a wider level of credit they rightfully deserve. Thanks to authors like James Hornfischerand others the heroics of Taffy 3 are getting the admiration they deserve.

As a DD main I will admit there is times when to contribute to team victory the "YOLO" is needed. I have had my Kamikaze go gun to gun with a Texas to reset and keep him occupied so we could cap out. I have attacked a secondary loaded Massachusetts with an Asashio deep in reload with my guns to make sure our Atlanta could break contact and get away later kill said Mass from behind an island.

Part of any DD players job in-game is to get stuck in and make a difference, even at the cost of you being blown to bits. Now that is not ALL of what should do, hence YOLO should be used when needed and not every game.

@enderland07 is right. The other part of the DD job, IMO, is staying alive. I would argue DD's become more dangerous the longer the match runs. Able to cap empty sides of the map, ambush wounded solo BB's, spot, and screen for your own team. And, whenever possible, kill the red team DD's or light them up like a Christmas tree for your te...
