It doesn't matter to us, and it would probably make the trailer look weird. You can remove the HUD by holding H though.

I'm still slightly confused about it pertaining to Update 29 content. The Gleam submissions page asks to create a video all about what Deep Rock is to us (I'd assume for most people the core game and mechanics) and doesn't mention anything about the update as a requirement, but the FAQ page states that it has to be Update 29 content only.
Is it fine if we just make our trailers about the whole game as long as it includes some Update 29 content, or does the entire trailer have to be about only the update content and not about the entire game as a whole?
I know some people have already submitted theirs and they surround the entire game, not really or just the Update 29 stuff. Just wanted to be sure.

It's the second bullet point under requirements. "Footage from Update 29 that you recorded yourself (with help from friends for multiplayer shots)" That said, we're not going to meticulously check for old footage. If it's indistinguishable, it's fine. We just want to make sure it's representative. We did update a lot of things in the space rig and on the drop pod, so those sequences would probably catch our eyes.

This trailer already does a great job of concisely presenting the elevator pitch: you and 3 other space dwarves work together to explore, mine, and fight your way through an alien planet to bring home resources.
I'm trying not to be a Debbie Downer but, these requirements seem to be creatively pigeon-holing the trailer into being a slighty different version of the aforementioned trailer.
I don't know, I just tossing out some food for thought and seeing what you guys think so I can maybe crowdsource some brainstorming....

We've talked about the idea of adding a pack of voice lines, but we're smack dab in the middle of the Easter holiday here, so it's hard to pull off in short notice. People are more than welcome to pick something from the game files if they're able to. Takes a bit of trickery, though.
The soundtrack restriction is very specific for a reason. We wanted the playing field to be even and let people have something they could work within. That way the submissions should be somewhat comparable.
As I've mentioned, we wanted to do a freestyle version of the competition too, but with COVID, gearing up for launch and Easter holidays, it will happen later, if it happens.

Cargo Crates and Lost Packs are two random encounters. They do not spawn in every mission, but if you're lucky you might get both. Listen for the pulsating sound when you play. It's a clue to their location.

Well, You can just see numbers on steamchart to notice that decrease in playerbase isn't only happening after free weekends. Number's only got "stable" after Sep. 2019 till the recent free weekend. Also, Average player count gets affected directly by people actually playing it while Discord is just one time thing. I joined, but only used once or twice for Miner Union and see changes in Experimental. But still, I'm contributing to the number on Discord. It's like Unique DL and Total DL on Nexus mods. Total DL is certainly an indicator, but the actual number on how many people have downloaded the mod is Unique DL. You can't talk how popular it is just based on users on Discord server. Also, I'm not denying that you guys are spending more money on developing than marketing. It's just that the first, initial ads and marketing failed to build hype or a community to spread info. That, probably everyone who bought DRG early knows.
It's definitely usable as a metric on growth/popularity - as you said, you've used Discord yourself, and you are playing it. You might not be the optimal user, but you are a user. Our potential player base is only growing and the player count is very stable for a game in Early Access. We're very happy with the direction we're going.
I don't agree that the marketing failed - it did exactly what it was supposed to; created a base of users, contributing with valuable feedback letting us shape the game. We're a small team, working fast on updates, and it's been a success since launch. We've built a team of talented people, and we work in a low-stress environment building a successful game that we love playing ourselves... and we're not done. :D

"failed miserably" refers to their advertisement and marketing, not the game itself.
The initial ads didn't bring enough people to make hype for it or make it to mainstream. Then the game kept on failing at keeping people hooked to it even after the first free weekend. And still, to this day, it's struggling to maintain its playerbase. I like DRG and still playing it several times a week, but that doesn't make me say or think that DRG is a successful project or has became a staple in certain genre. It's still developing.
I'm not really sure how you're interpreting that data, but a drop in users after a free weekend is absolutely expected for any game, especially in Early Access. Player count will also rise at each update and then flatten out, and the numbers are consistently stable. In comparison, our Discord has quadrupled in users over the last year - and we're very happy with the growth we're seeing over all the lines. We're not spending a lot on marketing, because we'd rather focus on making a great game for the community, and that's marketing the game for us, allowing us to keep pushing great updates past 1.0.
