Changes to MTG Arena Maintenance Schedule

Due to technical issues, the October Game Update (1.13.00.00) has been postponed until Thursday, October 22.

• A data-only game update (1.12.03) will be available tomorrow, October 15 to ensure our draft and Friday Night Magic at Home events occur as planned.

Hello everyone,

With Zendikar Rising Quick Draft now available for players, many of you have noticed that this event is not a part of our full-art basic land promotion alongside other Zendikar Rising limited events. While this was always our intended design and the promotion is not advertised in-game on the Zendikar Rising Quick Draft event page, we could have done a better job communicating this disparity in our game related updates (namely the September State of the Game and 1.12.00 patch notes).

Since this has led to a fair amount of confusion and frustration for our players, we’re going to be doing a couple of things to hopefully help rectify the situation:

• First and foremost, all players can use the code ZendikarLands to receive up to three* full-art basic lands from Zendikar Rising (limit 1 per account). No event entry or pack purchase required.
  • *Same rules as the event promot...

Bug Fixes

• Players should no longer see "Asset error occurred during last session" inappropriately when launching MTG Arena.
• Text emotes should no longer display smaller than expected.
• Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath should now be listed as banned on relevant in-game event pages (e.g. Friday Night Magic at Home Standard events).

Known Issues:

• Players are unable to purchase the Rise of the Eldrazi basic lands bundle using Gems if they had previously acquired some of the lands.

Standard Banned and Restricted Announcement

• Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath is now banned in Standard.
  • Players who had Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath in their Collection prior to this game update will receive an equal number of Wildcards.
  • Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath has been removed from Standard individual card rewards (ICRs).
  • Players will only receive Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath from Theros Beyond Death booster packs if they have collect playsets of every other mythic rare card.

Bug Fixes

• Players can no longer add modal double-faced cards (MDFCs) to Brawl decks if the color identity of the back face does not match their Commander.
• Fires of Invention no longer counts the back faces of MDFCs for the number of lands you control.
• Colorless spells with "x" in their mana cost are now highlighted in-hand when they are castable.
• Thieving Skydiver's kicker ability now functions correctly when casting it from the graveyard (e.g. ...

Please Note:

Players will need to restart their client to download this update (exit and relaunch MTG Arena).

Bug Fixes

• Various fixes to improve loading times and reduce latency/network related issues (e.g. getting stuck on a black screen, persistent "waiting for the server" messaging, etc.)
• Players should no longer inadvertently end up on the debug console.
• Adjusted mouse detection/hitboxes on the Zendikar Rising battlefield to prevent situations where players could not target/mouse-over-zoom their opponent's lands and/or Planeswalkers.
• The Nahiri's Stoneblades card sleeve now displays the correct artwork.
• Corrected the artist credit for various Zendikar Rising showcase card styles.

Latency/Networking Issues - Resolved

Update: We deployed a client update Friday, Sept 18 at Noon PT to further address some of these issues. Patch notes are available, here. We're continuing to monitor the situation.

We deployed several updates to alleviate some of the issues related to latency and/or network errors (blackscreens, stuck on "waiting for the server", disconnects, etc.). While this appears to have improved throughout the course of the day, we will continue to monitor the situation overnight and make additional changes if necessary.

Bug Fixes

• Kicked cards (paying the optional kicker cost when casting a spell) that target a creature now correctly resolve.
• Cards available in the MTG Arena base set are now playable in Brawl and Standard 2021 Play.

KNOWN ISSUE

When casting a card with kicker that targets a creature, if the spell is kicked the spell fails to resolves (i.e. nothing happens). Spells affected include:

• Shivan Fire
• Gift of Growth
• Vicious Offering

This only affects cards when paying the optional additional kicker cost; spells that target a creature will still function as intended if they are not kicked. We are currently working on a fix, and will update you with more information when it becomes available.

Bug

• When creating a new deck, players are unable to select Traditional (best-of-three) Historic from the Select Format drop down menu.

Workaround

• After selecting a different format, players can change their deck to Traditional Historic on the Deck Details page.
• The bug will be fixed in a future game update.

AMONKHET REMASTERED

Alrighty—who's ready to rise among the worthy once again? Next week heralds the return of Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation to MTG Arena in the aptly named Amonkhet Remastered.

Let's look at some of the nitty-gritty, sun-blistering, sand-blasted details:

• 338 total cards from Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation*
• Obtainable in boosters, Limited events (Sealed and Draft), and through crafting
• Focus on creating an interesting, repeatable Limited player experience
• Provide support for Historic and (eventually) Pioneer Constructed formats

MECHANICS

It's been a few years since we've faced the trials of Amonkhet, and a lot has changed since then . . .

Bug Fixes

• Chromatic Sphere activation can no longer be reversed using the undo key once the card has been drawn.
  • Note: This is a mana ability, which means it can be activated as part of the process of casting a spell or activating another ability. If that happens you get the mana right away, but you don’t get to look at the drawn card until you have finished casting that spell or activating that ability (and the action can be undone up until this point). Once you have you have looked at the drawn card (i.e. it's turned face up) you should not be able to undo activating Chromatic Sphere.

Nexus of Fate

Nexus of Fate wandered into a new Banned and Restricted announcement and back in time. True to form, it it allowed you to receive an extra Wildcard grant (as opposed to an extra turn).

Simply put, players who had previously received a Wildcard grant for Nexus of Fate when it was banned in best-of-one Standard found themselves receiving an additional grant this morning when the Historic ban was implemented.
