I hope others and mine RPD files have helped narrow it down, big thank you to you /u/RiotTony and the other Riot employees.

The RPD files and discussion here have been invaluable. I'll probably write up a Tech Blog on the cause of this once we've done a full Root Cause Analysis (where we figure out what went wrong, why, and how we can either avoid it in the future or better respond when it does happen).

I have Ryzen 5 too and I still have this problem, duh, I feel and I know that u probably just patched it somehow thinking its fine, but... Now, after enabling SMT on again, in loading screen u can feel ur cursor is at 30fps.

Game still is fps dropping after couple of minutes, not that harsh as it was, but still. Its not resolved Tony

The potato comment was in response to a player saying it might be their potato PC. And looking at the HW they were running on, they are using a system which is just below the min spec that we recommend. So, yes, the game should run slow on that system.

If you are feeling that your game is still having the dramatic slowdown after about 5 minutes, then please send me your RPD and I can then confirm that you are having that same issue.

CPU - AMD A6-5400K 3.6 GHz, OC'd to 4.5 GHz - Also happens with my AMD Athlon x4 750k in the same system, though I'm not currently using that CPU.

GPU - Nvidia GT 710 2gb

GPU Driver Version - 27.21.14.5671

Reproduction rate - Every single game for a couple months now

Zero Overlays, DX9 Legacy mode doesn't make a difference, CPU usage doesn't change noticeably during the frame drop time, and the GPU is never fully utilized.

I honestly assumed it was just my potato PC, considering my dated parts... But it runs great for the first few minutes, and I saw this post, so thought I might as well chime in and see about finding an improvement. I tried using the other (the better x4 750k) CPU for a bit to see if that made a difference since my CPU is...

It could just be your potato PC. The more that happens in game, the slower it gets. If you can send me an RPD file I can have a look and see what’s going on.

Ok. After much work, I think we may have it. If you were experiencing slow down after about 5 min into game, for about 5 min, then try another game. Hopefully, the problem will be gone now.

I'm not sure how visible this post will be on such an old thread, but if you no longer experience this slowdown, then please let me know in a reply. Also, if it does fix it, also let me know in a reply :)

Note: This will not fix other random slowdowns. This is primarily the one on Ryzen CPUs.

Just wondering if you are wanting some of my .rpd files? Also the drop happens at 30 minutes in almost exactly every game. So a lot of files to share

While we don't officially support playing League on Steam Deck, I am interested in seeing an RPD or two from you :)

Yeah. Thanks. That’s a common report, that turning off hyper threading helps. But that still doesn’t help fix the issue. We are still trying to repro the problem internally, so that I can identify exactly why that helps. It’s not a League engine issue, and no code changes there will make a difference. I have some ideas as to what it could be, but first I need a repro.

Wow. That is awful performance. And right from the start of the game.

As for an update, we are currently purchasing some of the most common hardware that seems to be experiencing this slowdown, as we cannot reproduce this issue internally. If we can repro it, I'm pretty sure we can quickly narrow down the cause.

Testing a fix on PBE was inconclusive - some players reported that it worked, and some that it didn't.

I attached you a speed test, speed also is constant no problems had ever with network from my side https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LVK8y6kzrYuNEjd5JRIZaXPEMJ8-M3LI/view?usp=sharing

Even that second RPD indicates network issues. Your overall speed might be fine, but if you're getting errors that require resending, we'd see issues like you're getting. Are you playing over WiFi or wired connection over Ethernet?

We do have Telemetry. Lots of it. But as I mentioned in another comment, this performance degradation hardly even shows up in our FPS meter, let alone in our End Of Game performance metrics. And if we can't detect the issue, then we can't filter for the hardware affected. Hence the request for RPDs where we do have every single frame logged.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who posted here with FPS issues and details, especially those who posted RPD files. Out of a couple dozen RPDs, I was able to identify 8 that showed the particular performance degradation that we're chasing. I'll be using this data to discuss this problem with some hardware vendors and between us we might be able to work it out.

I may be getting in touch with some of you over the next week for some more data one this problem.

Additionally, I'll be investigating a couple of other common fps issues that have been brought up in this thread. Hopefully we can fix a few existing problems now.

For those of you who have been struggling with this problem - thanks for your patience.

Who would think about downgrading his/her mouse to improve FPS in game...

That is interesting. I wonder if the massive number of mouse events is blowing out the message queue.

It stays like that till 15 minutes, then the FPS go back up, but still lower than they actually should be I think. Since I turned off SMT/Hyperthreading for League with Process Lasso, I am able to stay at 144 FPS (or higher) most of the time.
  • What overlays are you running (Blitz etc)? - None
  • Did running the game in DX9 mode help? - No
  • Did running with SMT/Hyperthreading turned off help? - Yes

Edit: Updated RPD File.

Awesome. Thanks for the RPD. You are definitely seeing the issue I'm chasing.

don't have the rpd files, since I don't want to play another game with those lags, but here are pictures of my recorded frametimes during three matches, the parts where it lags are clearly visible:

Yup. You're definitely experiencing the issue I'm tracking. Thanks for the RPD.

The first game no drops everything was smooth - RPD GAME 1

Second game is where it started to drop massively - RPD GAME 2

Those two RPDs are interesting. The first game ran at an average of 7.5ms per frame and CPU load of 20%. Second was 9.3ms per frame and 30% CPU load. Both games showed an incidence of stuttering, but only for around 30 seconds.

Thanks for the RPDs.

Any public file share should work. Most people who’ve uploaded in this thread have used google drive. If you struggle with that, DM me and I’ll give you a link that you can use.

TBH, I didn’t expect such a torrent of information :0 All I need are half a dozen good RPDs. I’ll be collating this data by hand. Mind you, a couple of other performance problems have become clearer here, so there is a benefit to this unstructured data collection.
