Tiles don't have threats anymore. Instead, you can change the threat rating in the game settings.

Hello dear friends!

I've been working away on the Gwdir race and they are very close to being ready for the beta branch. I wanted to put out this patch in the meantime as it has quite a few performance improvements, but, most importantly, carrying behaviour improvements. Settlers were wasting so much time carrying inefficiently and I needed to address that. Settlers will now focus on items closest to stockpiles first, and you should notice they will keep animal enclosure stockpiles filled in a more reliable way too. As long as you have the haulers and items of course.

I'm working on a job which lets you designate items to haul immediately. As an example, this will make it so you could force settlers to carry items on the edge of the map over items right beside the stockpile.

There are a few tuning and bug fix changes for you to check out in the patch as well. They should make things a bit more enjoyable and less teeth-grindy.

I've just uploaded a new build to the beta branch with quite a few performance improvements. However, you'll have to opt into the beta to get them, which has potential to have more bugs than the main branch. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the update to come out of beta in a month or so.

Performance issues in the game usually come from the systems running under the hood and not the graphics. A lot of pathfinding, job management, and item location processes are constantly working in the background. These get more demanding as your town population grows. Bigger maps will also demand more from your computer.

I apologize for these performance issues. This new patch should speed up things and reduce the number of spikes, but I'll continue to work on performance as I go. Thanks for your patience.

Hold ctrl to create a new room for each area you designate.

Yep, they should. Does the uniform match their profession and is it a higher priority than their individual uniform?

There is not, but maybe I should add something like this.

Hey, this is great feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I'll try to address these issues for the next update.

Regarding #3, I'm not sure I quite understand the function of this one. Can you elaborate a bit?

Thanks so much for the thoughtful post to help improve the game.

Sounds like some bug to me then. I'll have to take a look during playtests.

What's the population at? There is a cap of 99 you can edit from the top bar.

When you are designating rooms (with the room toolbar open), the game will automatically add those designated blocks to the current room selected in the room list. If no room has been designated, it will create one. If you want to create a new room for every block you designate, you can hold ctrl. So, even though you've separated the room designations with walls, it will still think those are one room because you haven't designated a new room. What you should be doing is designating a new room (again, hold ctrl, making a new selection of area to designate) for each separate room compartment. You can add designations to a previous designated room by selecting it from the room list (when the room menu is open). An alternative way to select a room to add to it is by holding ctrl and right-clicking the block where a room is designated (with the room menu open).

I totally agree they die too quick. I think that's a bit of a tuning issue. I want them to live up to 100+ and I think a lot of them die much too early. So, I'll take a look and fix that up.

Hmm, adults definitely don't age differently than kids. Age is marked (for humans at least) by hours, so they both age at the same rate. I usually hear that humans populate too quickly, so I wonder if you're building enough homes/beds for your settlement?

Time does pass weirdly and that's intentional. If time worked like our world, you could play for hours and hours and never see a child become an adult. You would never see the growth of your community, and the family trees unfold. Also, you'd never perceive the difference between long lived races and short lived ones. I want players to appreciate that Ancients live forever, while Human lives are fleeting. Without that sped up time, they would feel the same. I want players to be able to develop a settlement, and see generations of families come and go, and be able to look back down a lineage of greatness. I want you to see monarchs come and go. I want some of your settlers to become legends that other settlers talk about... Read more

Voidlands are rare because they are created from the use of large amounts of void magic. In the future, I'm going to give them way more chaotic events, flora, and fauna.
