Maybe its too late to change it now, but I suspect this respec system has been in place for a long time.

We believe that the skill respec system provides a very low, non-zero amount of respec friction.

Try starting a new characters, level up to the point where you reach a leaf on the skill tree, realize you've made a terrible mistake. Unspec everything and try to build back, it can be so tedious you just give up. I can't imagine you are getting quality feedback if everybody is so afraid of bricking their builds and therefor not trying anything new. And if you are so sure this system is optimal, why doesn't it also apply to passives?

It has been in place for a long time. We have made many adjustments to it based on feedback we have received. I have started many characters and respecced the skills at many points throughout the leveling and end game process. There are mechanics in place that cause you to never fully brick and to catch up quick. I actually will encourage new players to do this intentionally from time to time.

A few tips, you have a minimum skill level so you don't go back to 1. Severely under leveled skills have a xp boost and high leveled skills have a massive XP penalty so even if you have 2 skills at level 10 and respec one of them, it will be almost immediately functional and then fully caught up in not very long at all.

I'm not sure I would go so far as to say that it's optimal really. Given the options we have experimented with, discussions we've had and the feedback we've received, I think it's the best option we can deliver and I'm very pleased with it and have no intention...

The correct reasons have already been posted a few times but I just wanted to make sure it's clear.

The primary goal of late stage early access is to prepare the game for launch. This means getting the game as close to launch state as possible then focusing on bug fixing until we hit launch day.

We believe that the skill respec system provides a very low, non-zero amount of respec friction. We are very happy with how this system functions. The feedback we get on this system shows that most of our current player base broadly shares these opinions.

We are very interested in feedback on the system from a 1.0 and beyond perspective. It will not be changed pre-launch. We do not plan to change it for launch. Anything can happen after that but I don't want to get your hopes up so I'll say that it would require a huge shift in the internal design philosophy to adopt a D3 style respec system.

Edit: let's go easy on the downvoting party people, nothing wrong w...

I think it's 999.

There is technically a limit, it's real big.

Yes, you can pick solo character found or solo account find. And you can convert characters to the less restrictive versions in steps.

Sorry, it doesn't work.

e: (For clarity’s sake I am very ignorant to game building) is there a way to create a local character file and maybe have it overwrite every time you log out, that can be imported to single player but the online servers do not read/write from to generate the online character?

Those were crazy items. I remember as a kid figuring out how to edit stuff with real items in open and going in thinking I was hot sh*t only to discover people had rings that were better than my whole gearset.

Oh ok then. That's the core idea, to be able to play the same character either offline or online, with no trade or ladders. Basically just chatting and seeing people around in the world.

Yea, as soon as your character ever physically appears beside another in any context at all, that character is 100% online. This is not something we can compromise on.

No.

I might not be understanding the suggestion but I'm pretty sure this is how online SSF will work.

That's right, the next content patch is Feb 21.

Lots of different play and learning styles out there so it's hard to recommend exactly what is best but generally I think most people will enjoy making their own build. You'll probably be able to make it to medium end game with it. You'll probably slow down and end up needing some help to tighten it up and push corruption.

End game is primarily focused on the Monolith of Fate. In it you pick individual short levels which have specific challenges and rewards. It will gradually get harder and harder.

The Monolith of Fate

You're going to want to just do any quests that you have until you are high enough level to do that (roughly 55).

Thanks :)

And yup, we've already added an extra sub-system for CoF because it didn't have enough depth and control.

If it makes you feel any better, the item factions have been getting testing from the community for a couple months already.

Yea, both of those actions reload the scene that holds the tooltip so it would reset it. You'll have some error in your log that will point to the problem.

Fire damage is elemental and gets full benefit.

More narrow stats will generally appear with larger numbers. So the same level fire damage affix will have higher numbers than the corresponding elemental damage affix.

So, flame reave or cinder strike each get 5% increased damage from a 5% increased elemental damage affix. We try to keep things simple when we can.

Edit: changed the example skills to try and hit which one you are taking about with melee and fire tags.

Oh it's the compare data tooltip, interesting.

Well, was worth a shot. Not sure how that's happening as there is just 1 object that gets moved around.
