I typically buy 1-2 of the yearly support packs each league (if the league is good) and often i'll buy a league support pack as well. I don't think I've ever bought just the top tier pack straight away, but I have skipped ahead rather than buy them one at a time.

But, most importantly (and really the only thing i think is super important to me) is that if i buy points I always want those points to come with a pack that includes other MTX.

Once supporter packs exist the idea of buying just points, without attached MTX, feels really shit. If POE didn't have a large variety of supporter packs (4 over the year, and 6 each league) then I think I'd spend significantly less on their store.

Once I'm out of ...

Yea, our packs also come with cosmetics points too. It's hard to not just straight copy what PoE is doing because they are doing it so well.

All aspects of the item factions system, including Merchant's Guild will be available to existing and new Legacy characters on Feb 21 when patch 1.0 drops.

oh yea, I hate how often they change the cards. One grocery store here has had 4 different types of cards in the last 25 years. It's a long time but that's the sort of thing you would expect to stay consistent for way longer.

  2. Weird question. If cycles are seasons why not just call them seasons?

It's a very long story. The short version is that they aren't quite the same as seasons so we don't want people to long term expect the same experience. I use them in situations like this to help explain it faster.

We also feel that the name just fits better with the time travel theme of our game. Like it's restarting but with something just a little different because you went back in time. Instead of the seasons advancing and change occurring over time naturally.

No idea what a payback card is but sometimes yea. It's ok though, could be a lot worse.

Cool. Kind of weird to be able to power farm and then switch to trade, though. Almost sounds pointless to have 2 factions. But I'm sure the details in the Dev blog will make it make more sense. I'm excited

There is a very extensive post already on our forums that goes into detail as to why the plan you described will be worse than just picking either and sticking with it.

To be optional, you'll want to pick either trade or no trade. That's the end of the pro strat.

Gameplay. Yes you can change at will. Full details on item factions coming in a dev blog tomorrow.

If you google this question you'll find statements about online characters moving to offline as well as in the chat online. It seems like only a handful of people understand what's actually happening.

So frustrating. Oh well. As one of the people who worked on it. I'm extremely confident in my answer.

I have no idea how there are conflicting answers, I answer this every day. No matter, one more can't hurt. (Edit: just want to add that I'm not questioning that there are conflicting answers, just expressing my light frustration that they exist still is all)

Short version: you ever play PoE or a Diablo game? Same as that.

Longer version: currently available characters are legacy (standard) characters. On Feb 21, the official 1.0 launch happens. At that point you can create and play both cycle (season) or legacy (standard) characters. Cycle characters are all fresh and are the only characters that can compete on the ladder.

If you don't want to participate in the ladder, don't care about a fresh merchant's guild economy and would like to keep playing your old characters simply keep playing and creating legacy characters and it will be as though nothing has changed for you.

Characters never move between online and offline in either direction.

Nothing specific but it isn't the only item which changes skill visuals. I'm sure we will continue to do it.

No, mage will not get any new skills at 1.0.

Technically neither will sentinel but I'm going to say it does because adding a skill tree to an existing skill that doesn't have a tree might as well be the same thing as adding a new skill

With regards to the bundling and being careful about adding incentives to spend more money, my feedback is that an adaptive discount system is always welcome. Meaning, if you already bought A and B separately for $60 total, you'd have the capability to "finish" your set with a $40 unlock of pack C's content, since that is the remaining amount that adds up to the ABC bundle cost.

Maybe this sort of implementation isn't on the table just now, as it has practical complexities to it. But just saying I appreciate the places where I see it, even if that's rare.

Ha! We were struggling to make exactly this work today. I'm not sure if it's going to work or not yet.

Yeah not at all; individual MTX being priced differently based on how flashy they are makes sense, but if I'm choosing between competing packs with (presumably) exclusive MTX, I'd want to feel like they're similar quality between the different themes.

Now, if you could, would you prefer PoE to just be 2 packs that were $30 each and didn't require you to buy the 1st one to get the 2nd?

If they were split up into separate $30 packs it would be even better, as I would be able to pick and choose which parts of them I wanted. There have definitely been times where I wanted something in the higher tier but not the lower tiers and so I end up passing because the only bits I want aren't worth the increased cost to me.

Cool, thanks for the extra info. I'm on the same page now.

Yeah basically. Like in your example I would want the fire cape to be just as nice as the void one; similar animation quality/etc, even if the two packs then cost the same.

If there had to be different tiers for make cheaper options, I'd prefer they only include some of the MTX like a cheaper option that only gives pet+portal or such.

PoE's league-specific packs are kind of how I mean; there's a $30 option with some of the MTX, then a $60 that adds the rest, but both sets of packs feel equally good, just with different themes.

e: and a $90 version lately, forgot about that change heh

OK, I think I understand what you mean. Just to make sure, you don't have that same expectation for cosmetics that aren't in the supporter packs though right?

I don't want to have quality confused with scale. I think it's standard practice to have some mtx items be more expensive than others. Usually this is where the bigger, flashier, more involved ones are more expensive. They take longer to make and you get more from it. If this isn't a reasonable expectation, I need to go reevaluate the whole mtx process from scratch.

In other words, I'm wondering what feedback you're getting that's mixed about that. There are actually players who want to buy the $100 pack and not receive the two lower tier packs with it?

I'm going to complicate things slightly. Here are some hypothetical packs and values.

  • Pack A: Fire Pet, Fire Portal, Fire Cape and points. ($20)
  • Pack B: Ice Pet, Ice Portal, Ice Cape and points. ($40)
  • Pack C: Void Pet, Void Portal, Void Cape and points. ($60)

So the Void pack is significantly more flashy, vfx heavy and just over the top compared to the lower packs. Maybe it has special animations on the cape and some random event that has some sound effect or something. Then, if we sell the packs for cumulative price with a discount for bulk maybe it looks something like this instead.

  • Pack A: $20
  • Pack A+B: $50
  • Pack A+B+C: $100

Now, with this structure, if you're just after the Void pieces, that'll cost you $100. If they didn't bundle together though, you'd only need $60. So for people looking to make more specific purchases without the extra stuff, the smaller bundles are better. For someo...

We definitely both have enough stability, and typically both get rewards. However, for the person who didn't start the boss, it still shows as an outstanding item for completion.

This then stops that person from moving to the next monolith - I think - although we will have to try it again to confirm.

That's a bug. If you can, please report it with the in game tool or on our forums.

Basically, if you get a boss drop, you should be able to move on to the next timeline.

Each instance of this that gets posted is an accident and we are working to fix all of them. It increases performance to only tell the things that can block the camera how to unblock the camera instead of giving that to everything. This means that it's a manual process and sometimes individual elements can get missed.
