Your announce was mentioning "New languages". Could you tell us more about that?

Our localization efforts (along with our awesome translation team) have been focused on English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. We want to localize the game into Russian and Polish, and in the future to Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other languages!

Why did y’all make it sound like a partnership when y’all were really bought out by Garena? Feels like y’all were purposely trying to misdirect your community.

We went back on Twitter to clarify, as when we drafted the messaging, we didn’t foresee the confusion. Internally we consider this a partnership as it’s not structured as a classic acquisition. Phoenix Labs will remain almost entirely independent, I am still the CEO and Head of Dauntless, we’re keeping our email addresses, and you wont see Garena in any of our branding in general.

It’s currently actively being tested internally! It’s actually live but shut off (because it’s still has bugs we want to resolve)

What will Garena be doing to the game that will clear up things for the stated release of more content?

Currently there is no plan for Garena to work on Dauntless at all. Phoenix Labs will continue to be the developer on Dauntless.

Was dauntless bought out yesterday or is this a partnership?

Garena purchased the remaining outstanding shares of Phoenix Labs yesterday. Garena has been a great partner for the last 3 years. We absolutely envision this as a partnership, where each group can help support the goals of each other. I think we have a lot to help the Free Fire team with and I believe they have a lot to teach us. For example, we’re almost entirely built around Console and PC development, and have done some great and innovative things there, we can absolutely share that AAA dev knowledge with the Free Fire team. Meanwhile, we have not done a lot of mobile development and very much have a vision of bringing Dauntless to mobile, I can’t wait to learn from them!

I'd love to get high quality prints of these for the office. They're so good.

The game has been consistently changing and growing for a long time now, and with the recent Switch release bringing in even more players and making it cross-play across every major gaming platform (except mobile, which is coming), the playerbase is large and healthy.

We’re not going anywhere!

Honestly, this being the first time we've had a public-facing statement about shields that isn't a straight "no" or diplomatic "that would be neat", has got a lot of us excited and talking in the community, since every other time we've had the topic, it was very much in the camp of "not happening". It does mean that some people's hearts for weapon 9 or 10 is definitely gonna be set on it now, though, so I hope the community-at-large treats what's been said here with a bit of charity, especially if things don't turn out so neatly.

Everybody's looking forward to whatever comes for Dauntless in 2020 regardless! Can't wait for another year of supporting this great game and community.

Me too. And we have BIG year ahead of us. I'm just putting a lot of the vision stuff together for the team. I'm really excited to share more. I'm also excited to find new ways of showing what we are up to, while still being able to stoke the fire when it's time.

It's not misinformation - it's old information, and no communication to a pivot on design until now.

I'm also not privy to all conversations too. The combat team may not be in a place where they are ready to talk about this stuff. And our industry trains Devs that they get in sh*t if they say something before it's ready to talk about. Either by their boss or the community if they change the design. We try not doing that (all of us) but old habits die hard.

Well I’m sorry to have gone on previous information from Dev comments made, but your attitude sucks..

I’ve seen nothing but wonderful support and communication from this whole community but this is the first time I got the shits by a reply. I’m actually excited by the sword and shield concept, just keep coms open and honest and you will keep the loyalty of the fan base. Peace dude.

That's 100% my bad. In rereading that I see that I was more flippant than I intened to be. My apologies. I was short handing from my phone and should have reread it before hitting send.

And happy new year.

Yep. One of the earliest weapon concepts we have is a Spearish-Sword and Shield concept that took a lot of inspiration from this fight sequence. The shield concepts that I’ve been discussing, in the last year or so, are not the tanky-knight fantasy, but instead a skirmisher’s weapon where the shield is more for deflection. What we don’t want is this initially. Though the fantasy of Braum is also interesting and something we should think about, but that’s not the fantasy we’re currently...

umm, I’m sorry you’re super misinformed. It’s not the weapon we’re currently working on, but it’s absolutely on the list.

Weapons rework

  • The weapons right now are far more superior compared to what they were a year ago. And with the addition of various weapon specials and mods, it made the weapons much more versatile than they were before.

New game modes

  • Trials and Escalation have been added since then. Everyone has got a lot to say about these two modes but I'm glad that we get to do more stuff outside patrols and pursuits.

Load outs

  • Most-requested-feature-ever. Remember back then when we had to change gear each time we queued up for a hunt? I'm just glad the days of hastily changing cells and gears in the airs...

We got a lot more coming too! We're just getting warmed up.

Expect the same for the Switch - the QA team lead was on the last Dev Stream and confirmed she and her team had a solid plan for immediate performance increases locked in, and we've also learned that includes enabling Boost Mode and possibly turning off auto-capture. That said, expect every patch to include some kind of performance tweak for the near future.

This is correct. We've got a number of patches coming up and a team dedicated to performance. Will also continue to improve global performance too.
