A hero, that's what you once were. You stood boldly against the shadow and purchased another dawn for the world... with your life. But the evil you fought is not so easily banished; the victory you claimed, not so easily held. For now, the specter of death looms over the world yet again and it has found new champions to bring about its final reign. Knights of darkness, wielding runes of death and destruction, bound by the will of the Lich King. This is the hour of their ascension. This is the hour of your dark rebirth…

The Lich King’s armies present an ever-present threat to all life on Azeroth. Some of his most terrifying servants are known as Death Knights—unliving instruments of the Lich King’s will.

Unlike mindless Scourge puppets such as ghouls and skeletons, a Death Knight is a former hero of Azeroth that’s been risen into undeath to serve the Lich King for all eternity. As Worl...

Crafting Stations in Dragonflight

Upon entering the Dragon Isles, you will find new crafting stations for crafting professions that don't currently have them, which includes all crafting professions with the exception of Cooking and Blacksmithing. Journey into the Azure Span, an ancient frost-touched land, where you'll aid Kalecgos as he ventures into the Azure Archives on a mission to reclaim the Azure Oathstone.

Cold Comfort

When you first arrive in the Azure Span, you'll be greeted with snowy peaks, mist-covered forests, and icy tundra. The Azure Span stretches from coastal tuskarr villages through sprawling forest tundra to looming spires of ice and snow. Regal blue dragons once roamed these lands, but with the passage of time, several tribes of tuskarr, gnolls, and furbolg now call these ancient lands their home.

Shadowlands introduced a series of three new bonus events within Torghast, Tower of the Damned, offering unique new event Anima Powers. These new powers will provide a variety of wild new abilities to utilize during your adventure through the halls. If you choose the event-themed Anima Power at the start of your dungeon run, the remaining choices for that run will change to include additional event-themed powers to choose from along the way.

For example, choosing the maw pet power during the Beasts of Prodigum event will alter any remaining Anima Power discoveries in Torghast to include powers that buff your maw pet. Should you not choose to take this new power and choose a normally available power, you will not get any abilities associated with the event within Torghast to use for your run.

Dragonflight contains major updates to World of Warcraft classes, centering on the re-introduction of talent trees. In this preview, we take a first look at the prototype trees for the Hunter and Rogue classes. These and all the other trees still have a lot of work to be done, but we want to share what we can to start collecting detailed feedback at this early stage.

Some of our biggest goals in a class and talent revamp are to increase player agency over your character’s progression and build, provide meaningful rewards while leveling, and reinforce your character’s connection to both their class and their spec. In addition, we felt we had to retain many features of modern World of Warcraft speciali...

With Dragonflight development in full swing, you will soon get a chance to try out the new and updated profession system in World of Warcraft. This system has been designed to provide greater depth and engagement, allowing you—the crafters of Azeroth—to differentiate yourselves and stand out from your peers.

Before diving into the details of crafting, it’s worth noting that there are three main pillars to revamped professions:

  • Crafting Orders
  • Profession Specializations
  • Crafting and Gathering with quality

In this preview, we’re focusing on crafting with quality, but before diving into that topic, a quick summary of the other two for context.

Crafting Orders

Crafting orders are a new way for you to place an order for almost any Dragon Isles crafting recipe using an Auction House-like interface. This new service will be provided to you nearly free of charge by represen...

Hello, World of Warcraft community!

We know that you are hungry for new content and I’m really proud of how our development teams are working to meet or exceed those expectations – there’s more happening in WoW than ever, and this is just the beginning.

To help support our increased content needs, since May, we’ve been working with a great development partner, Proletariat. Proletariat was founded in 2012 by industry veterans from Turbine, Harmonix, Zynga and Insomniac. Their strong leadership team has a long history of working together, deep MMO experience working on Asheron’s Call, Lord of the Rings Online and D&D Online, and a strong presence in Boston, where they’re based.

Our work with the Proletariat team has been going well. Today we are excited to announce that Blizzard has closed the acquisition of Proletariat—something we’ve been working on for a while.

Together, our teams will expand our development pipeline for WoW. Our plan is to continu...
