I don't think we removed the functionality, just disabling it on officials.
Weird that a patch with so little new content is almost 12gb, I can't imagine that fixing a spawning bug with Fire Wyverns and incompatibility with Tek Gauntlets will need a whole lot of files to be edited.
Methinks there's a load of new secret stuff that's been added to HLNA ("Misc. HLNA polish")
I think it's more likely due to the way chunking of console package builds works.
I don't know for sure though if that is the cause.

If I had to guess, Discord came into popularity after ARK was in full swing and we never got around to setting one up.
It isn't even an official discord. Wildcard have stated multiple times that there is no official discord for Ark.
