There was an outage just now (just before 7pm PST Fri 3 December) and many players got kicked out of the game and could not reconnect.

We are urgently looking into it and will keep you posted here when the servers are back up.

EDIT: We will post updates in this thread. We have some ideas of what happened and will continue to provide updates here.

UPDATE at 7:28 PM: We may have found the problem... We were rate limited on the Steam Authentication servers. We are working on a fix now!

You should be able to reconnect and rejoin now!

Our apologies for the inconvenience. The outage lasted about 40 minutes. We will provide a debrief later so we learn from this and avoid it happening to you again.

GENERAL
Q: Should I choose DirectX 11 or DirectX 12?
A: DirectX 11 provides the fastest and most stable game experience, and is our default setting. Enable DirectX 12 if you have an RTX graphics card and want to play with RTX Global Illumination. NVIDIA DLSS and FSR acceleration technologies are enabled in both settings.

Q: What are the minimum and recommended PC specs?
A: See this thread about our hardware specs and graphics optimization.

Q: Can I change key bindings?
A: Yes, once you are in the game, or orbital station you can change the keys in the Controls section of Settings Menu. This option is not visible on the title screen but is in the game.

Q: Will Icarus have controller support?
A: Currently, you can partly bind some stuff but not all actions.

Q: Can I skip the introduction video?
A: Yes.

If you pre-ordered the Supporters Edition you'll find the First Cohort Envirosuit in the Workshop.

The Supporters edition is a "Package", made up of the Standard Edition and the Supporters Edition. It looks like it's only refunding you one part of the package. Let Steam know that you want to refund the entire Package.

GeForce Now isn't available in NZ or every country so best to check your availability first, but yes Icarus will be there once we launch.

The additional preload download is less than 1GB, but also expect a Day One patch after launch too.

I should mention the only exception to this is offline play, which is of course not held on our servers and is cached locally.

The game is constantly saving its state to our central servers. This means you or your friends you play with can rehost at any time, greatly minimizing any chance of data loss.

Note that we do want to investigate some form of "headless client" hosting, basically sort of in between what we have now (you host and play the game), and a dedicated server. This would offline a lot of hosting functions and improve experience/performance.

No firm plans beyond investigating it. But it seems a promising solution, could even result in supporting more players (speculative though).

In our advertising and trailers we have said "4 December".

We are launching simultaneously around the world, so we aimed to make sure the game is available to most players before 4 December.

The release date on the Steam Store is set by Valve and gives you a countdown by hour. Only 11 hours to go!

We needed to take the beta down, so that changes could be made to focus and prepare on our production system and servers that support the game. All focus is on supporting the full launch of the game, to ensure people have a stable experience.

The Queen is also Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of New Zealand (and Her Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith).

In Wellington, Icarus unlocks at the convenient time of 11am Saturday (NZT).

Enable DirectX 12 if you have an RTX graphics card and want to play with RTX Global Illumination (we recommend a 3000 series card for RTXGI).

Performance Optimization Tips

• Choose the DirectX 11 setting when you load Icarus
  
• Update to the latest graphics card drivers. Both NVIDIA and AMD have updated their drivers for Icarus
  
• Experiment with your Graphics Settings to find a setting that works best for your PC. Try Medium and High settings
  
• We have seen reports that increasing the Field of View to 100 may improve performance, but watch how it affects the game's perspective
