Thank you for seven fantastic Beta Weekends.

The Beta Weekend format of unlocking new features, quickly fixing bugs and optimizing every two weeks has worked really well for our team and the health of the game.

That also means there are some features you haven’t experienced yet: Outposts, more Missions, Tier 4 tech, mining Exotic Matter and Orbital Workshop tech.

Icarus will launch worldwide on Steam this weekend at:
  • 2pm Friday 3 December 2021 PST
  • 10pm Friday 3 December 2021 UTC
  • 11am Saturday 4 December 2021 NZT
Depending on your timezone your Steam Store might display a slightly different date, but ignore that for now.

For us, a key purpose of the beta weekends was for you to stress-test Icarus’ core gameplay systems and balance. Elements like session-based progression rather than a persistent world, destructive storms in a game about building, or mission objectives in an open-world game are calculated risks for a survival game. But if we don’t try some new things out, the genre won’t evolve.

It’s equally important that we exit Beta and begin to treat Icarus as a live, evolving game. The core game design has now been tested and solidified, a mountain of launch content is loaded - we now begin building on it.

Dean ‘DayZ’ Hall’s new survival game launches on Steam on 4 December

 

RocketWerkz’s session-based sci-fi survival game Icarus is confirmed to launch on Steam on 4 December (UTC).

Originally scheduled to launch in August, Icarus instead opened a series of Beta Weekends for players who pre-ordered the game. The beta became Steam’s top-selling game during its first beta weekend and has had over 200,000 pre-orders and beta test players. The game has resided among Steam’s Top 10 Most Wishlisted games since August 2021.

“After three months of beta testing and feedback from one of the most engaged gamer communities I’ve ever seen, Icarus is ready for launch,” says gamerunner Dean Hall.

We just thought we'd give you a rest for Thanksgiving and other game launches ;-) Don't worry - we have a bunch of news coming this week and this weekend.

Remember back in April how we delivered a 7-minute long short film? There's another one of those coming, but longer. Plus announcements about drivers, what's in 1.0, maybe some Twitch streams.

Yes we are translating Icarus into Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish for launch.

Our translators are furiously adding words to the game as we get ready for launch this weekend. But then our developers add new features and they have to play catch up ;-)

You'll also see that one of the Governmental factions on Icarus, União, and the space engineering company Inaris LLC are both from South America.

Yes, this is on our roadmap for future.

We've already got some of it implemented in our developer's build, but making it work properly for 100% of the things you do in game (eg, menus, building commands) takes a bit longer.

The date is displayed differently on different timezones.

Icarus will launch on Sat 4 Dec UTC, which will be Fri 3 Dev afternoon/evening PST.

Hey Prospectors!

Beta Weekend Seven was the grand send-off we had hoped for, celebrating our fantastic community and all the contributions you’ve made to this game over the last few months.

Our Photo Competition, Building Competition and 3080 giveaway were all massive hits, absolutely exceeding our expectations in the number of entries but also the quality. We saw 1000+ entries into the photo competition alone, and it was incredibly hard to even narrow the entries down to our finalists.

But there has to be a winner, so without further ado, here are the winners in each category of our Photo competition.

In general, always update to the latest drivers - but just prior to launch we expect NVIDIA to update their game-ready drivers to include Icarus. We'll let you know when they're available.

Yes Icarus will launch on Saturday 4 December UTC. If you're in the USA that may even mean the afternoon/evening of Friday 3 December.

Good news! If you only want to play singleplayer there is an offline mode that will store all your progress on your local harddrive with no need for an internet connection.
