Hi Varuna! Yes, you can definitely do everything you mentioned in your question, except for the last thing: number of teams maxes out at 2, so 3v3 and 5v5 is possible, but not 2v2v2v2v2. Might be fun to do a 5v5 (5 humans vs 5 bots) and see how hard of bots your friends can beat. Bots go from 1-10 in difficulty, and if you are playing online, bots even have an "auto" difficulty, which adjusts to your skill over time; the more matches you play the better handle on your skill the game gets.

One final thing I should note is that in Couch mode you actually can go up to 3 teams; that's just something that we haven't added to Online mode at this point.

Hope you and your friends have a blast if you decide to pick it up!

Hi MeteorHead!

Are you talking specifically about couch play? Or having more than one player on a single PC? If you are playing online on your own PC, you already have the option to toggle spell cooldowns on from the pause menu. Actually, when we started working on MageQuit 6-7 years ago, the cooldowns were initially as you described, around the edges of the screen. In the theory, it sounds great, but the issue we ran into immediately was, players get used to looking at a certain part of the screen for their cooldowns, but since everyone in couch mode is looking at the same screen, there's no guarantee that you'll always get the same corner or side of the screen every time you play. The above-head cooldowns are also crucial for knowing what spells your opponents has available at a glance. I know having just an icon with a color means you have to memorize all the spells essentially, but this we the best middle ground we could figure out given the constraints.

Yeah! You can queue into FFA with a party of up to 3 players. If you want to queue with up to 5 players, it'll have to be teams (Chaos mode is 4v4 or 5v5). If you have more players than that, you might as well just do a private match :)

I should add, the fact that it hangs is due to your game not being able to retrieve your game progress from our servers (XP, gems, unlocked wardrobe, etc). So while the game is "playable", you won't be able to level up, earn gems, unlock wardrobe items unless those calls make it through.

No problem! I usually don't assume that it's a firewall issue because most players aren't power users, but you clearly are hahaha. You could try adding an exception for bowlcutstudios.com, and maybe even magequit.com and see if that helps!

A couple other things you could try besides disabling your firewall:
1. Restart your PC (this is kind of a catchall for all PC issues lol)
2. Restart your router

I'm wondering if there's some sort of firewall issue that's preventing your game from reaching bowlcutstudios.com -- I've added you on Discord to assist you further :)

If that doesn't work, would you be willing to post the contents of output_log.txt from that same folder? It may contain a hint as to what is going wrong.

Hi Ockvil! I'm sorry you're having this issue. It's possible that your game is trying to submit a really large log file. You could try deleting the file so that there's nothing to submit on startup.

The file should be located here on Windows:
"C:\Users\brett\AppData\LocalLow\Bowlcut Studios\MageQuit\NetworkLog.txt"
(Obviously replace "brett" with whatever your Windows username is)

Let me know if that fixes your issue!

One last update on this -- the Steam Deck / Linux build is on the main branch now! I've included some instructions for it including setting resolution for better in-game UI.

Ohhh okay yeah I gotcha. You'll have to unlock the elements individually then since XP is only awarded in online matches. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the clarification!

That's awesome!!! Glad that fixed it <3

Can you say a little more about the cloud saves thing? Players' gems, XP, and wardrobe unlocks are all saved off to a centralized MQ server so branch of the game shouldn't matter. There are some minor things that don't translate over like unlocked elements, but once you reach a certain XP threshold they are all unlocked by default regardless of device. Maybe that's what you're referring to?

While you are in a match, pause the game ("Esc" or "Start" on controller), and there should be a prompt at the bottom of the screen showing you how to re-enable it!

Additionally, if you are playing with more than 1 player locally, the cooldown bar will be hidden because there are more than 1 of you on the same screen and you'll have to rely solely on the icons above your healthbar.

Hope that helps!

I could see potentially lowering the duration that they are out, but one thing you may not know about wormhole is that you can melee the worms, which can reposition them unfavorably for the caster, and in some cases, effectively nullify them. E.g. using Tetherball on a worm will spawn the ball inside of the worm, teleporting the ball, and pulling the 2 ends of the worm together; or charging up your Compound melee on a worm; or picking a worm up with Sustain or Geyser and tossing it out of the map, killing anyone who goes back through it (on air maps specifically). Additionally, if someone is hiding behind a wormhole, you just need to throw your spells into the other worm as the spells will travel through and hit them, and then you're thinking with Portals.

I agree it has some unique and substantial upside, but it's also one of the few movement spells that can be countered/nullified by anti-projectile defensive spells when cast: deflect, pillar of fire, rock block, vangua... Read more

Hi Shabby!

I know it's not fully informational (like, it doesn't say how many seconds are left until it's back), but the wizards' healthbars have little icons above them that show which spells are available. The gameplay 101 video (second video on the store page) does a good job of explaining those.

In a very early version of the game, I tried putting full cooldown indicators all around the outsides of the screen, but you get used to looking in a specific corner for your cooldowns, and then there's no guarantee you always get that corner in a couch game so we shifted to a more minimal, on-the-wizard approach. Another benefit of the on-wizard approach is that you can also tell at a glance what spells your opponents have available.

Hope that helps!
