Yep! If you connect more controllers to your machine you can have multiple players locally playing online. They just need to press A in the Online Lobby to join the party.

Quickplay FFA or 3v3 -- you can queue with a party of up to 3 (so up to 3 local will work here)
Chaos (4v4 or 5v5) -- you can queue with a party of up to 5 (so up to 5 local will work here)

Party Only a.k.a. private match If you have a custom party, you could technically connect 9 additional controllers and play 10 local online (not sure why you would do online though if all players are local haha)
Allows you to mix and match with friends in other places

Let me know if you need further clarification!

Yeah exactly, that's what shows currently for quickplay joining -- it was originally meant as a way to prevent players from stacking a FFA lobby with their friends by having them midgame join. I would ideally change that to allow joining if you were previously in that game.

Yes, I guess I more mean if you are playing with a party you could have the option to rejoin your party with the "join game" option on your friends list, adding you back into the game, but if you were playing by yourself, I'd need to add an explicit "reconnect" option somewhere that remembers what match you were a part of. That might be good to having in general though lol. For the scrolling thing -- I was just thinking that there's really no reason for the game to let you scroll down through players who aren't even online. It always puts the friends who are playing MageQuit at the top of the list.

You can reconnect to party only games already, but you may be talking about reconnecting to a quickplay game? It's something I can look into, but it'll be more complicated because I'll need to change the logic for backfilling players when someone quits a quickplay game.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, the positions of the characters and spells start to get a bit choppy after a few games, indicating either packet loss or data throttling? If it's persisting after restarting the game, etc, that would indicate that it's something being enforced on the relay server itself. Do you happen to have a game capture?

Hmmm, does this happen consistently? Or just occasionally? I'm working on a performance improvement patch they may help everything run more smoothly, but if it really is an issue with Photon's servers, I will have to reach out to them again.

Looks like our SSL provider made some updates this morning that broke things -- I should have a fix pushed in about 20 minutes though

It looks like our web server randomly started rejecting requests from the Windows version of the game. I can still see your progress in the database so you haven't lost your progress, it just isn't loading. I'm contacting support now to get it fixed!

Hello Guld! I've followed up via Discord so we can get this resolved, but it looks like all your progress is still in the database. I'm wondering if maybe the game was launched from the exe without being logged into Steam?

That's very strange, I'm not sure that I've seen that before. Let me know if it continues and I'll get in touch with Photon support and see if there's anything they can do on their end!

Was it the framerate or latency while playing online?
The relay servers of the networking library we use can sometimes be temperamental, but it's rare, so hopefully that's all it was.

Hi Pau_wolf!

I touched on this briefly in the original post, but maybe I didn't explain it well:

At first glance, this might not seem ideal, but it actually works very well once you are used to it and it allows us to keep mouse&keyboard players in the same player base as controller players because neither scheme has a significant advantage.

In order to allow multiple people to play online on a single PC, we couldn't make the camera static for mouse and keyboard specifically which had been a common request. We also attempted the traditional RTS right...

Hello! I see you are inquiring about the windwall on coffin (teams).

Mathematically, you can think of it has taking the average position of your team and the average position of the other team -- the windwall will be halfway between those two positions. Meaning that if your team coordinates a group push, you can move the windwall more effectively. This also means that if you are the last one alive on your team, you are your team's average, giving you more pushing power.

Please let me know if you'd like any more clarification!

Hello PLATYPUS!

Sorry for the slow reply; I was out of town visiting a friend. With the increase in players recently, I've been getting similar reports once or twice a day, so I put together the following guide with things to try.

If unable to connect to matchmaker:
  • Cause: Likely an internet issue or our matchmaker's IP is blacklisted or the port isn't open.
  • Potential Solutions: Aside from making sure ports 8082 and 8083 are open, see the general solutions below.

If it's not a matchmaker connection issue, then it's a Photon issue. Photon is a popular third-party library for gameplay networking. As much as I like to know when people are having connections issues with MageQuit, all I can really do is relay the reports to the makers of Photon, which is why I put the following list of potential solutions together.

If unable to retrieve pings:
  • Cause: can'...

I replied to the previous post on a different thread already, but remapping the individual WASD keys is now supported as well! Thanks to OGC GroZdarKiPiK for the suggestion :)

I have an update for you! It looks like our match history tables were super full, and one request in score submission was trying to load a lot of that table, occasionally resulting in the request running out of memory and crashing. I cleared out the tables and buffed your XP and gems to make up for the uncounted matches, and everything seems to be functioning properly now!

Also regarding your friend with remote play -- that's a bummer! I don't expect your friend to buy their own copy, but if they end up doing that, MageQuit will automatically select the best region for you two to play in together and route the traffic though that region's server :)

Thanks for letting me know about both things!

It's not a problem! Happy to help. You're actually the second person to say that about level 5, so I'll look into that today.
