Okay, I tested it out and it works great!

Did your friend(s) all install the Steam Link application? We got stuck on that for a bit when we were trying it out.

See the "First time playing" section in the screenshot below:

Okay! I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if there's something wrong with it.

Hi WestTideZ!

I haven't used remote play myself, but I know others have done it successful for MageQuit (it's a feature 100% provided by Steam). You may already know this, but remote play works by allowing players to connect "virtual" controllers to someone else's PC, and then streams their screen to you.

As far as I know, there are a couple ways to do this in MageQuit.

1. Online: the person actually running the game can use mouse and keyboard or controller to go into Online. Once in the online lobby, other players connected over remote play should be able to join by hitting A on their controllers (or X on PS4 controller, etc). This should allow you to play online games against others if that's what you want to do. However keep in mind that the remote players will likely see double latency (since the game would already be online and then the display has to be sent to them)

2. Couch: if you are only looking to play with your friends doing remote... Read more

A kick mechanic would take a while to develop, and, if not designed well, could be abusable. Do you remember the name of the player?
Thanks!

Hi Jiffypop! Yes, we do have AI that will backfill games if there are not enough players to fill them. Also, if you are just starting out, your first few games will only be against AI so you can learn how to play without getting stomped. We'll be releasing to Nintendo Switch soon so we are all looking forward to fuller lobbies with crossplay. Hope that helps!

No problem! And nope you aren't paranoid :D

Looking at your match history since I adjusted your rank, I see that you got 1st 3 times, 2nd once, and quit 1 game -- so you must be referring to something that happened in that game.

But anyway, yes -- there are players who still win consistently even against the improved AI on max settings. My goal was to try to create AI that no one could beat and then scale them back to all levels of play (I was unable to make them THAT good, but I got close). The AI have ranks and are treated the same way as players to the matchmaker, so over time, their ranks will settle where they should. And once I make quitting actually adjust your rank, the system will just keep improving over time.

All of this said, I'm going to take a look at how the AI ranks are settling now to make sure that it isn't putting disproportionately good bots in games that it shouldn't.

Hi Baka-gaijin,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and I'm sorry the new patch hasn't been enjoyable for you. I checked the database and your MMR is definitely overinflated since you always won your matches in the past. And unfortunately, as you realized, your MMR doesn't adjust if you quit a match. So if you only finish games that you are winning, your MMR will only ever increase, therefore making matches unenjoyable for you. Also, having a lot of matches under your belt makes your MMR move a lot slower, SO...

I have reset your MMR so that it can settle where it should be much faster.
Also, for the next patch I will make it so MMR adjusts when a player leaves a match to avoid this sort of situation going forward.

Hey Dieman, the patch that changes the mid-game join bonus is now up! Mid-game joiners now start with average kills.

Hello!

Thank you for the message :)
I will look into this and report back!
It will likely be a new option in the rebind settings for each wasd key.

Sorry for the english, it's not my mothertongue ! Have a nice day
Hi! I'm not sure I fully understand what you are asking -- are you saying you'd like to rebind the WASD movement keys individually?

Hey Dieman! The FFA late-game join bonus is getting changed in the next patch to average kills instead of double points for X rounds they missed out on. Definitely agree that the double kills can feel bad and we also can't have people mid-game join with 0 points, so we think starting with the average kill count would be a good way to go moving forward.

Hi DarKnife!

Thank you for the kind words :)

I agree that a 2v2 mode would be a great balance of teamwork and strategy. We actually had a 2v2 circuit last season through Indy Gaming League (playing matches once per week) and a lot of people really enjoyed it, including myself and my brother (the 2 members of Bowlcut Studios). If we get enough people signed up next season maybe we can bring the 2v2 circuit back (this season of IGL is just 1v1 and 3v3).

But anyway, to address your request -- at the moment, we need to focus on growing the game with the current number of queues (FFA, 1v1, 3v3, Chaos). If the game grows enough, an official 2v2 queue will become a very real possibility :)

In the meantime, we have an active discord of very friendly players; I'm sure you would be able to find some players in there willing to play custom 2v2s with you!

I used to work in aerospace (actually on 737 and 787) so your airplane joke is on-brand for me. We have the same issue at conventions actually -- even on my brother's 1080ti it can chunk at times with the 4K TVs that we use. Something you can maybe try is setting your computer's resolution to 1080p instead of relying on the in-game settings to handle it properly; you may have better luck that way. Long-term though, taking another pass at improving performance is something I've been meaning to do, so this post gives me another reason to.

Hey Baka-gaijin, I have a quick update for you!

Today I patched in automatic region selection (no more always routing traffic through US East) and MageQuit now takes ping into account with matchmaking as well. You will no longer matchmake with anyone with a ping higher than 160ms from your best region in quickplay (I assume this will be Melbourne for you). Ranked, unfortunately, doesn't enforce ping limitations because we don't have enough active ranked players to warrant the split, however, the automatic region selection will still find a better relay server for your ranked matches even if pings aren't restricted.

Hello bAd -- I have a quick update for you!

Today I patched in automatic region selection so your game's traffic will no longer be forced to route through the US East server. Instead it will pick the best region out of the 13 available. This should significantly improve your experience when playing with friends.

Hey Blondi3, it took longer than expected, but I have some good news for you! I just patched in automatic region selection today, so you and your friends in South Africa should have your matches automatically hosted in Johannesburg. Would love for you to give it a try and let me know if they latency is noticeably better than before :D
