They don't lose progress if you fail a Grand Heist they just don't gain experience in their skill.

Ran an ele reflect chimera map (reflected ele dmg not increased by sextants) and killed myself on my own spark. Tried offscreening mobs to ensure no debuffs like unnerve on me and used a warding flask to remove ele weakness on hit from gloves but nothing work.
Tried to do atziri in alva temple and same thing - killed myself instantly. I suspect that the implicit is not working properly....

This was brought to my attention a while back, the shield's behaviour is indeed a bug and is fixed in 3.12
