Ask yourself:
π² Are your carriers preoccupied other tasks, eg. building or carrying resources elsewhere?
π² How many other production buildings are currently demanding their own steady stream of resources? Note: each meal made by your Mess Hall consumes 2-3 units of firewood!
βοΈ Newer players sometimes struggle keeping their burners stocked with firewood, which can spell disaster during a winter storm. Often this is due to supply chain issues.
If you're running into bottlenecks quite frequently, try temporarily pausing any less critical production.

Reaching distant resources takes time.
Long road networks do help, but try taking it a step further by building remote "hubs" around deposits for workers to live in and access services.
