I may have misinterpreted something here ... was that log above taken just after this game freeze? Because on looking into it, I don't think there's any attempt to load a saved game, or start a new game.

If we could get a log taken immediately after the problem has occurred please.

That is just a reference to the two game folder structures I detailed in the previous lines. The point being they need to be completely gone or empty before the reinstall.

You are critically short of free space on your boot drive C: - Windows likes at least 10% free there. This means Windows could not swap out much in memory if it needed to, so your free paging file space cannot be used.

Whether that is related to this game problem I'm not 100% sure but it definitely needs to be addressed. See if you can move anything from C: to D: so there is, say, 20gb free on C: (10gb for extra swap space, 10gb for Windows' elbow room).

As to the game log: it stops just after the sound section, when Unity starts loading the game and its DLCs. I think we might try a clean reinstall:

- move any valued save games elsewhere; they are under
C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\{large number}\
- "uninstall" in Steam-Surviving Mars
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Surviving Mars AND C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\ folders
- re-insta... Read more

This is just this one colony? If you start another new one you can play it okay?

Any mods in use?

Yours is clearly a different issue than the rest of this thread, as your save hangs for me too, on 2 different machines.

What could be different in your setups to cause this so consistently I do not know.

Please attach here the latest (ONLY!) game log file, from here:
C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\logs\
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Plus, DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

As you can see in that log, many texture files are missing. Run a Steam Verify operation against the game, does that find anything to fix?

Has this game always been like this for you? Or it was okay up to some point?

In the game's video options, make sure you have Vsync On and fps limited to, say, 60 . Does that help?

What I'd suggest is a full clean reinstall of the game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere; they are under
C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\{large number}\
- "uninstall" in Steam-Surviving Mars
- unsubscribe from ALL mods in the Steam Workshop for this game
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Surviving Mars AND C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\ folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add MarsSteam.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your antivirus app
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam SM or AppData SM locations, before installing again.

There has been no game patch since, so any game bug that existed back then will still be there.

As you can see I've asked for game files to see whether something outside the game might be causing or contributing to this.

When in the game alt-tab out to Windows. Right click on the Speaker icon in the taskbar, Open Volume Mixer. Make sure the game is not muted or set to a really low volume in there.

If that doesn't help Please attach here the latest (ONLY!) game log file, from here:
C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\logs\

I recall previous similar reports here, with say a change of sound device while in the game.

I'm afraid such issues are unlikely to be addressed in the near future - there's been no patch for this game since the middle of last year.

Sorry about that!

From the errors in that log I'm pretty sure this is a corrupted installation or a mod problem. Does this happen in multiple colonies, or just one particular one?

I don't know what could cause that for you, I am sorry. I take it there are no mods in use?

Can I get a log taken after a crash with a completely unmodded colony, thanks.

And, what antivirus app do you use? Make sure MarsSteam.exe is in all its exceptions lists AND that it is not doing realtime scans of the C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\ folders.

This is not a known issue with the game.

Disabling mods does not remove effects they have already had on the saved game file. Do you get this in a new colony that's never had any mods used in it?

Sheesh. Well, I can't see why that sequence of actions would cause that; if you got the 50% discount at 4. why would you not get it at 7?

It takes that exact sequence to cause it, with the reload and everything?

I'm not sure I follow this part - you are saying that with the tech in effect, starting a new dome still requested the full amount of resources, not the half-amount?

If so, I'm not at all aware of this as a game problem. is that so with any dome type?

This has been an ongoing issue with this game for some time I'm afraid!

There is a mod that helps with it mentioned here:
