Windows has placed your User Documents folder on OneDrive, which is MS's cloud. That ought to work but OD needs to be running and syncing perfectly all the time, or you'll get those errors.

If you don't want your documents help up there, you'll need to reconfigure Windows to have your User Documents folder back in the local location, C:/users/{userName}/Documents

All the best!

There's no crash recorded in that dxdiag, in this game or any app on your system in fact! Quite unusual.

Has this problem always happened on this computer? Or it was okay up to some point?

May as well update that nVidia driver to this month's one:

I'm not sure I trust those temperature readings. Can you check with different apps please? CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and Speccy might help with that.

If you still see temps over 80c, that is your problem. What actual fps are you seeing in the game?

The settings.txt you attached here does not match the one in your screenshot.

Please update that nVidia driver:

Please do not re-open old threads here, always make your own new thread in future.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

The symptoms you report are generally driver, Windows or most commonly hardware issues.

For the latter my suspicion would fall on the AMD video system, as we seem to have ruled out overheating of that. Do you have the option of swapping that out, even temporarily, as a test?

And, what temperatures do you see elsewhere in the system - CPU and PSU in particular?

When in the game alt-tab out to Windows. Right click on the Speaker icon in the taskbar, Open Volume Mixer. Make sure the game is not muted or set to a really low volume in there.

If that doesn't help Please attach here the latest (ONLY!) game log file, from here:
C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\Surviving Mars\logs\
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Plus, DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Refunds can only come from the store you bought from.

I know the game still has this issue; I do regularly update the developers about it, but being a probable engine issue it will take considerable time to fix, I am sorry.

My question was whether setting Affinity in steam.exe meant you didn't have to set it on ck3.exe every time you played? doing taht should not have any noticeable effect on any game's performance - 12 cores are plenty for any game!

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Note that you can run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, which bypasses the launcher.

This issue is irrelevant of OS, I think you are looking at the wrong issue - there is a separate CK3 one with the Gamepass edition relating to corrupted save game files in the MS cloud.

My suggestion was to use Affinity in Windows to restrict ck3.exe (and indeed victoria3.exe) to use the first 16 core/CPUs - using only one will indeed cripple the performance as no multi-threading would be possible.

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
OR
- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

No clear cause of this problem in those files.

There's a crash in an nVidia utility in there though; did this first happen after an nVidia update, or some other change or update? Or has it never worked on this machine?

What if you make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that - does it work there?

I recall previous similar reports here, with say a change of sound device while in the game.

I'm afraid such issues are unlikely to be addressed in the near future - there's been no patch for this game since the middle of last year.

Sorry about that!

FYI Vulkan on Windows is only really intended for diagnostic purposes, not for ongoing use in this game.

Are you only seeing fps of 60 or less in the game now?

Those temperatures are okay, so the issue is elsewhere.
