Did you do this?
AndrewT said: THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Users with low post counts cannot include links in their posts. This is a forum anti-spam measure.

Anything else ought to be okay, just no links.

Has it always been the case? Or it used to be okay in this respect up to some point?

Any mods involved?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.

I use Macs Fan Control for this purpose, but there are other such utilities of course.

This game is no longer supported under the standalone Paradox launcher, so recent game versions and DLCs will not appear there.

You'll need to run it from the PLAY button n your Steam library.

Is this in campaigns left over from previous patches, new campaigns, or both?

That can cause problems of its own, please undo that setting.

There's a slightly newer nVidia driver now, please try that.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Sorry, I'm not quiet clear - if you have set eu4.exe to run as Admin, undo that please.

Otherwise do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test
- if still a problem, implement the settings from post #2 aboev again

Good luck!

I don't know why this is happening to you, I am sorry, I see nothing wrong in any file to explain it. Especially why just this game, and why just on this machine not your old one.

There was another new nVidia driver a few days ago - did that help at all? As always make sure Geforce Experience is unloaded.

Normally, before turning off your computer you down it gently by choosing power-shut down, from the lower-left corner. If however you lose power, or just turn the machine off, or the machine or Windows hangs, Windows records that LiveKernelEvent .

You may have a Steam issue , from your description there. We could do a clean reinstall of Steam AND game, that might help that:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- exit the Steam app completely
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" l... Read more

Two totally different errors there, as you can see. One appears to be a Windows or hardware fault "Disk 1 has been surprise removed.", the other certainly a Windows issue "Autopilot.dll WIL error was reported". Googling that gives some pretty concerning possibilities!

Try this Windows repair tool

You haven't set eu4.exe to run as the Admin user, have you?

Aside from that, I don't know why the launcher will not start the game any more.

What do you see if you run eu4.exe directly from File Explorer? Any Windows error show?

Please make your own new thread in future, rather than re-opning old ones. Thanks.

What happens if you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer?

Those COM Server errors are very common and not significant - there is nothing in there relating to the game itself, rather than the launcher?

I see you have 3 antivirus apps all enabled:
Antivirus
Windows Defender
Antivirus Disabled
Virus Signature Database Up to date
Kaspersky Security Cloud
Antivirus Enabled
Virus Signature Database Up to date
Bitdefender Antivirus

Do you still get issues that make you forcibly down Windows, ie that cause those LiveKernelEvent entries? They are not good for your Windows installation, they should be looked into.

But if running this game does not trigger them, that is probably a separate issue.

What happens if you run ck3.exe directly from file explorer? Same problem?

It's possible the mods have done something new and different to that save file, due to difference circumstances in the campaign.

Can you start and play a new test campaign with them okay? If so probably best to take this to the User Mods forum.

I don't know the game well enough to see what it is you are referring to in that shot.

Can anyone else reading this please compare it with their own installation? Thanks!

When you say "slowdowns in games", which games aside from this one are you referring to?

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Edit that settings.txt to say:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

IF that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

You mentioned originally that the game stutters extremely when you pan around, but in that movie I really had to pay attention to see any stuttering at all!

Does it faithfully show what you are seeing with your eyes? I know that movies don't always.

And, is it only when using the keys this happens? What about edge scrolling for instance?

Does it happen at all zoom levels? In galaxy view and solar system view?

If there are no mods involved, those errors may indicate a bug. But let's try a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders - In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new galaxy, NOT any existing one
