Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Any mods involved?

What if you destroy that science ship and build another?

I don't recall any previous such reports. Has this always been the case since you've had the game? Or it was okay up to some point?

Is this whether you are host or not?

Does it affect the other players ort just you?

If you set Stellaris and HOI4 to use the same MP service Nakama as CK3 uses, do you get the same issue there?

_juggernaut said: I had the 'Corrupt disk' notification in the Steam download window while the launcher was reinstalling some mods. Right now in the launcher i have EPE mod dowloading at 100% progress and not proceeding to install the rest of mods.
Are you still getting these issues?

Did you implement those settings I gave above? You don't mention them either way.

Most likely this is a game version compatibility issue, OR a mod problem - are there any mods in use here?

If not you can revert to the game version in use back then, and load a save from that time (not one that's been updated by the current patch).

If there are mods in use, there may not be a fix - but try the User Mods forum.

Good luck!

That sounds like that mod is doing something to the base game installation, which it shouldn't!

"setting_framerate_cap"={
version=0
value="off"
}
Did you try to set the framerate cap? If not please do that.

If so, what fps are you seeing in the game before it crashes?

LOTS of mod errors in those logs - please do ALL testing on this issue with all mods disabled, and use campaigns that have never had any mods used in them. Thanks.

And make a new dxdiag.txt for me please, but this time wait until it has finished loading before making the text file. Thanks.

So far as I know you are the only one having experienced those two particular (and unrelated) errors, and I do almost all the support here!

There are plenty of users having crashes, sure, but not like yours and I think unrelated. I believe you have a Windows, hardware, or both problem I'm afraid! Do you have some form of Windows support you can contact about those errors?

I think everyone's logs get that error at present, I doubt it is anything to do with your problem.

If this is an unmodded game, please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach that save there for QA to look into.

Sorry for that problem!

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

There has been no game patch since, so any game bug that existed back then will still be there.

As you can see I've asked for game files to see whether something outside the game might be causing or contributing to this.

It's the same launcher but it has two modes. When run directly from Paradox Launcher.exe it is in a non-Steam compatible mode, and is both a client and a launcher. That is, it handles game installation/uninstalls AND DLCs, mods etc.

When run via Steam it runs in a Steam-compatible mode as a pure launcher and leaves the client stuff to Steam, it is just used to wrangle mods, DLCs etc.

Is this in campaigns left over from previous patches, new campaigns, or both?

Can you see how much memory the gam eis using just before it crashes? You might try expanding your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB. ... Read more

Is it still at those temperatures? If so, I'm afraid you probably have a hardware problem at this point, it should definitely NOT be overheating at 10 fps!

Note that the MacBook Air is strictly speaking not supported hardware for this game: if an older one it only has an Intel video system, if a newer one M1/M2. The published minimums are:

  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-7820HQ
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD® Radeon™ PRO 560 (4 GB)

A new launcher came out recently - maybe your AV app doesn't like it?

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3-binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3-launcher folder)
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023..12/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT ck3.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

That is WAY too hot, and almost certainly the cause of your problem.

In the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If that doesn't help still, what fps are you getting in the game before it hangs? It should not go above 60.
