That implies this is a launcher problem, not a game issue.

Please delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Then run the game from the PLAY Button in Steam, to reinstall the launcher.

If that does not get the launcher working, we will need these files from that same folder:

Best to lodge a new thread in the current Bug Reports forum (as that link is to the old archived forum, which I doubt anyone reads).

Meantime you could post in the User Mods forum here, see if anyone has found a workaround there.

Driver: Intel Iris Plus Graphics
If your model of Mac only has an Intel video system, that is probably the cause of your problem. This game now only uses Vulkan as a renderer, not openGL any longer. And Vulkan does not run well or in some cases at all on Intel video Macs. FYI this game has never been supported on that hardware platform since release, so really it's a matter of luck that it ever worked!

All you can do is revert to the previous game version in the Steam betas tab for the game. Or play on any other machine you have access to with supported hardware. OR if you have Apple Bootcamp installed, play in Windows there.

Otherwise if you have just bought the game, please seek a refund from that store.

Sorry for the bad news!

It is certainly there. Right click on this game in your Steam Library, manage, browse local files. You'll see a folder /binaries/ ; go into that and double click on ck3.app then tell us here exactly what happens.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything t... Read more

Let's concentrate on solo play as tests are easier. After one of these crashes can you restart the game, load up that save, and carry on? Or do you need to wait a while or reboot before you can play it again?

DO you see fps over 60 in the game now?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

Sorry, I see no further clues to your problem in there. One more try:
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

We see no crash in ck3.exe in that dxdiag, but there is one in exceptions. Odd.

After one of these crashes can you re-load the game and save and carry on? Or do you need to reboot, or wait a while?

Do try unloading every other app you can before starting the game.

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Edit settings.txt to say:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

IF that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .

This is probably to do with your Windows User Documents folder being on OneDrive (ie MS's cloud servers). That ought to work in general, but it requires OD to be running all the time, to be syncing perfectly, and you to be online all the time.

If you didn't actually want your documents held on the MS cloud, you can change the Windows settings accordingly. Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location - that's where you can change it to point to the old default location C:/users/{userName}/Documents

If however you DO want your documents stored up there, let us know and we'll look into this further with you.

All the best!

Thank you.
You'll need to wait for the devs to patch it, I'm sorry. I am actively pursuing this issue within Paradox.

Starbird said: Except now the game can't seem to find and re-load the Ironman game I was playing right before it crashed. Ugh.
That can't be related to the render option change. Is the save file physically still in the local or Steam Cloud locations?

This looks like it is on MacOS, is that right?

And, you see our launcher okay but this happens when you hit PLAY there? Or you never see our launcher?

What happens if you run ck3.app directly from Finder?

Almost certainly you've gone to the wrong Library folder, there are many in MacOS.

If you do exactly this:
To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/
You'll get there.

Probably worth lodging it in Bug Reports then. You mention the MS cloud so I assume this is the Gamepass edition of the game; be sure to mention that there too.

For an Ironman campaign, you choose at the start whether it will be stored locally or in the cloud. That setting never changes.

For non-IM games you can choose each time you do a manual save whether it is cloud or local.

I'm not aware of any circumstance when a local save gets 'converted' (uploaded?) into a cloud save!

Those logs go back to September last year, so I'm afraid you cannot have done the delete-reinstall process I outlined fully. Please go through it again, doing every step. Thanks!
