We don't officially support proton or wine installations I'm afraid. Just the native game on Linux.

Can you 100% verify that please? It is the most common case of won't-start problems with this game on Linux right now.

If GeForce Experience is running, unload that before starting the game - it can override the game's own settings.

Yes, I'm afraid this machine does not have enough system memory to run the game, and the CPU AND video system are below the requirements:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-2120 / AMD® FX 6350
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 660 (2GB) / AMD® Radeon™ HD 7870 (2GB) / Intel® Iris Pro™ 580 / Intel® Iris® Plus G7 / AMD® Radeon™ Vega 11
You were lucky it ran at all before, but it simply will not now. You could revert to a game version from way back then, in the Steam Betas tab for this game.

Failing that, I hope you have access to a machine that meets the minimums.

Sorry for the bad news!

So you are back to how these were set up before, but are still getting that Steam runtime communication error" ? Because that makes no sense ...

Make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that and try the game/launcher there - does that help?

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

If that does not get the launcher running, we will need these files from that same folder:

Attach ALL .log files Found here ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

b1gdrum said: I tried the windows admin for the .exe files (I didn't do ck3.exe as you said) and now the game is saying "Steam runtime communication error" and doesn't seem to be connected to steam while running
Remove that setting from each of the .exe files in turn, I think one of them might be getting this - IIRC it is dowser, but it could be bootstrapper.

Please delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Then run the game from the PLAY Button in Steam, to reinstall the launcher.

If that does not get the launcher running, we will need these files from that same folder:

Meantime, what happens if you run eu4.app directly from Finder?

FYI Ubuntu is the only supported distro for this game.

Firstly, if you are using the Flatpack or other similar Steam installation, please use this instead:

75c is up there, but not quite at the point that problems normally start, 80c. It never ever gets up there?

And it is unusual to see CPU hotter than the GPU in our games. What are the idle temps?

All those games use the same installation of the same launcher. So yes, if one has a launcher problem they all will.

What AV do you use?

Did you try the Windows Admin thing, for the launcher .exe files only?

Setting the refresh rate to 60 ought to limit the fps to 60 also. How you are getting to 600 I cannot understand - is perhaps GeForce Experience running? If so it may be overriding the settings we did before.

And, as your Windows desktop is 60hz you are okay to turn Vsync on for this game again. That really should limit it!

We see temps up to 77c there, perilously close to the 80c mark where things can start going seriously wrong. We need to get that down!

We see some crashes in stellaris.exe in that dxdiag, so it is a little surprising there is no exceptions log.

After. a crash, can you reload and play on? Or do you need to wait or reboot?

What fps do you see in the game before it crashes? Anything over 60?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

Then I guess we didn't except all those .exe files in there somehow. Never mind.

Is the situation now as it was originally here - still crashing randomly if you now start a new unmodded campaign?

Try deleting your your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt files. The launcher and game will recreate them at default settings.

Good luck!

I know very little about consoles, but if you can retain or copy that save game files somewhere, then try this:

- uninstall the game from the XBox

- clear the XBox cache and game files (save game data)

If you turn Controlled folder Access off again now, do you still get those access errors?
