I actually thought 2023.2.1 would help with this - is that what you are on now?

If so do you still get that SteamService error in the detailed log?

I thought GoG used their Galaxy as their front end - are you not using that but purely running from stellaris.exe ? In the case of those other platforms that would certainly prevent them from recording achievements.

In any case, I've drifted off from your core issue that the in-game browser is not working in that respect. GoG is the one game version I have no access to so cannot test that; it's probably best to make a new thread in Bug Reports on that issue, if there is not one already, as I don't believe there's anything you or I can do to fix that here.

Are these crashes reproducible from a save file? That is, if you load it again does it crash in the same place o you can carry on for a while?

If so please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach it there for QA to look into.

If it's more random though; is there any particular action or event in the game that seems to trigger it?

All the folders in that attached file show as 0 bytes here ...

Double clicking on it in File Explorer, yes. That bypasses our launcher and Steam, and 100% ensures no mods are in effect.

When I started a new colony on my iMac just now, the music changed to Revelation Radio automatically even before the rocket landed.

I can't explain why you alone (apparently) are experiencing this.

All I can think of to suggest is a full clean reinstall of the game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere; they are under
~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/{large number}/
- "uninstall" in Steam-Surviving Mars
- manually delete both the ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Surviving Mars AND ~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/ folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam SM or Application Support SM locations, before installing again.

Good luck!

All achievements are triggered in the game and so show inside the game, yes, of course! But Steam ones are indeed managed by Steam which is how you get them in your Steam account.

I'm still not sure which edition you have but for instance the same is true of Epic - they manage them , they are part of your Epic account not Paradox account. You click on the ellipsis in that game in your Epic library, and choose Game Achievements there to see them.

I don't have a GoG account so I can't check that one.

If you get this problem now in a game version you used 6 months ago that did not show the problem then, the problem must come from outside the game. How that gels with seeing it on two separate computers is hard to understand though!

As you have ticked the "disable fullScreen optimisations" box for stellaris.exe I cannot understand how you can have the fullScreen issue you describe. What if you run stellaris.exe by itself, does that still happen?

You mention mods; please disable or preferably unsubscribe from ALL mods while we work on this.

Do you actually see an fps rate of 60 or lower in the game? This is to confirm the settings we did have taken effect.

There is a UI scaling slider in the game, does that not work for you?

  • Right click the game in question in Steam > Properties > Launch Options
  • Paste in this: --pdxlDebug
  • Run the game
  • Once it fails to launch, locate the logs in the following place depending on your platform:
Logs are then in
%LocalAppData%\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2\logs\
(example: C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2\logs\)

The 1603/1605 errors we see there are typically a previous other installation stuck, or a problem in the Windows update/install processes.

If you see msiexec running in Task manager-processes, kill it and try this launcher install again please.

Otherwise run the Update app in Windows, does it load okay, find anything to apply - whether a patch, update, or whole new Windows 10 version? If so do that and reboot, then try this launcher install again please.

If still no good, do you see Paradox Launcher v2 in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall? If so does it uninstall cleanly, or get an error doing that? You can use this MS tool to clear the stuck install/uninstall:

I see, then your achievements are run by your other vendor - GoG, Epic, or MS/Gamepass I guess. I'm not so familiar with those platforms but I'd assume they have an equivalent way of viewing them.

The "disable fullScreen optimisations" step I gave you should fix that. Have you done that?

The power of the computer has nothing to do with games crashing at start. That can only be a game bug or a problem in the computer/Windows, and it cannot be the first option or it would crash on both your machines!

What if you make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that, is the problem any different?

In general, any corrupted computer file is probably irrecoverable. But it is not impossible the corruption is relatively minor and can be edited out. The good folks in the User Mods forum here are probably your best hope for that.

However it's a huge worry that it happened to them all at once, I struggle to come up with any explanation for that! Normally only a save for the campaign that is currently open could be corrupted by, say, a game bug or a computer glitch. Save game files not currently open ought to be unaffected by anything like that.

It is probably worth making a thread in Bug Reports and attaching ALL the affected save game files there, with an explanation of the circumstances.

Sorry this happened to you, whatever the cause!

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Good luck!

That error log does look like a bad game installation, but it's hard to see how that can be after a clean reinstall.

Are there definitely no mods in play here?

CK3.exe should never be set to run as Admin, that causes problems in its own right.

Do you get this on another machine, or under a different Windows user on this machine?

You can see your achievements in the Steam client. Click on this game in your Steam library, and go to View My Achievements.

Is that what you were after?

Has this always happened ever since you've had the game? or is was okay up to some point?

Right click on stellaris.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

If that does not help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .
