This crash is reproducible from that save, is it - is that why you attached it?

Any mods involved?

Interesting, although I was unable to duplicate this just now.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign - NOT with any existing save

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If it still happens after that we'll look into your setup.

I see you have 3 monitors, does it happen on all of them?

I've since had one other report, so I guess it's still a problem. I'll check with Paradox what's happening.

Users with low post counts cannot include links in their posts, as an anti-spam measure. Anything else is okay.

Then I don't know why this is not working for you. Do the mod files appear in that /mod/ folder okay, after you run the launcher?

We cannot fix that problem as we did not cause it. It has come and gone a few times since it first appeared nearly 2 years ago now; whether it was nVidia or Windows updates or some combination we are not sure.

Can I ask what problem playing in borderless causes you, vs playing in fullScreen? As I mentioned games are starting to not even have a fullScreen mode any more (eg CK3) so it's nothing to do with how old the game is.

What you could try is disabling fullScreen optimisations in the compatibility tab for stellaris.exe , that may have the same effect as borderless.

For those reading along at home, this user has already had advice from us in the ticket system that this is likely due to their specific setup, which we were unable to duplicate.

@PsAlexFire you should attach here the dxdiag and settings and log files you did in ZenDesk.

I just unsubscribed from all mods in the Steam workshop, and deleted my /mod/ folder and launcher-v2.sqlite file. Then I subscribed to one mod which immediately downloaded in Steam. Then I ran the Stellaris launcher and that mod was immediately available in the launcher, and the ugc_xxxx.mod file appeared in the /mod/ folder too.

I don't know why that doesn't happen for you! Are you on launcher 2020.14 ? Are the mods you were trying all updated for the 2.8 game version?

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods
- delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mods_registry.json
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite
- subscribe to a few mods
- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

Bhruic said: I've been having the same problem. It turns out that it was missing ugc_.mod descriptors for some of the mods I had installed in the c:\users\\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod\ folder. I know that with previous versions of the game/launcher it would re-download/re-create those files if they didn't exist, but it doesn't seem to do so now... Or at least for all mods. I deleted all of mine, and it recreated 4 out of 12 of them. But the remaining 8 it didn't recreate were listed in the game log file as "[19:33:38][dlc.cpp:1859]: Could not find files for mod: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop...

I'm not aware of other such reports.

Does it matter what Display mode the game is in?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

Well I was wrong about that, wasn't I ! No good idea now what is causing this.

Go to the documents/paradox/ck3/ folder and delete the folders cache, shadercache and terraincache - see if that helps.

If not, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox/CK3 folders

This is a widespread problem, it is not just you.

It is being investigated every day, but I'm afraid is still not fully fixed, as you have found. Work continues!

What launcher version do you see? Current is 2020.14

And, are these mods updated to work with the new game patch 2.8 ?

Thank you for your thoughts! I believe it is now time to report this in the Bug Reports forum, as those loading times and experience are IMO unacceptable.

Very odd that the same game version that drastically reduced loading times when unmodded, caused mods to load slower!

This is an issue with certain nVidia setups on Windows 10, we've never been able to pin down why it affects some users and not others.

You should use borderless mode, which is functionally identical to fullScreen. In fact some games now come with no fullScreen mode at all!

Hmm, I'm not confident the newer 2020.14 installer files got used there - are you sure you extracted them and placed them as described?

And ran steam.exe as the Windows Admin user?

You might also try setting dowser.exe to run as Admin.
