Hey!

We are planning another mass test on Singularity on Thursday, August 25th, at 17:00 UTC (= EVE time)!

What exactly is being tested?
We are going to test some experimental audio changes. These changes aim to remove the popping that can be heard when the client tries to play too many sounds, which can happen in busy situations like fleet fights. It will also reduce client CPU usage by limiting the number of sounds actively playing at the same time.
The music and important sounds like the UI and gate / wormhole activations will always play, but other sounds are being prioritized based on how relevant they are.

How to connect to Singularity for this test:

  • Change the server from Tranquility to Singularity in the bottom right corner of the launcher and log in as normal.

Yeah, the threads have been merged, as there was very much overlap between the threads.

Bookmarks: That’s odd, I am not aware of any change, which could have caused this. Please send a bug report about this, if this is still happening. It is quite likely that this would also happen on Windows, if this is indeed a bug.

Issues 2-4: This sounds to me like some modifier key (shift, option, command, control) might got “stuck” somehow. We had such bugs in the past, but I have not heard about this for some time. Could you check if this is still happening after restart? In this case it would be also good to send a bug report about this.

We were never able to reproduce this exact issue with switched icons internally, but we hope that it was also fixed with the patch today, which should have fixed the issue with missing text and icons. Please reply here and send a bug report, if it happens again after today’s patch.

Fixes and performance improvements for problems found in the last mass test. This is related to following graphical features:

  • DirectX 12
  • Changes to texture compression
  • Changes to LOD-ing of objects and textures
  • High-res nebulas

We are aware of a radial menu problem, while being in a fleet.

Hey!
Thanks for helping with this mass test! We tracked down several issues, especially that the framerate dropped significantly while zooming in and out (or at doing “look at”).
2 million skill points have been added now to 380 characters on Singularity.

A bit of extra information on enabling DX12 and checking if it is properly used:

  • The launcher needs to be running the latest version (2057442)
  • DX12 is enabled by default on Singularity, if it is supported. You can disable it through the launcher settings, if you want to test something without dx12, for example if you want to compare something:

  • Your video card needs to support feature level 12_0, which is unfortunately not the case for the very first dx12 cards. Most video card manufacturers started to support 12_0 in 2015. You can check, if your card supports this, by opening dxdiag and checking the Feature Levels in the Display tab:

This potential fix is now on Singularity and so far it looks like this stopped the crash indeed. Please let me know, if you are still crashing.

A potential fix for this is currently in code review and I hope that we can patch Singularity in time with this before the mass test tomorrow.

In this specific case the mirror process started already on Thursday and the data was probably 6 days old, when it was deployed to Singularity.

Actually: I was easily able to reproduce this crash and it seems like it is somehow related to failing to render the sun. Our engineers will take a closer look next week.

Several graphical changes, as announced in Building the foundations for an evolved EVE experience | EVE Online

  • DirectX 12 - only available on GPUs, which support DirectX feature level 12_0 (normally supported by new cards since 2015 - dxdiag.exe shows the supported feature levels on the display tab). DirectX 12 will be switchable in the launcher, as soon as enabled by us.
  • Changes to texture compression
  • Changes to LOD-ing of objects and textures

This is on Singularity since the update yesterday? Could you please send a bug report, and it would be great, if you can include logs (preferably from LogLite (see https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/202078999-EVE-LogLite-Diagnostic-Tool- )

This said, I have seen in our crash reporting system a significant increase of client crashes on the Mac on Singularity - so it is possible that this is related to this.

@Suki_Vokkonen Please send bug reports for the simulation window and the perma-blinkies. I assume they should not behave this way.

Hey,

Singularity has been updated with some of our upcoming changes, which have been described in “Building the foundations for an evolved EVE experience”

Not all mentioned features are available yet. DirectX12 and the new agent conversation window for career agents will be enabled at a later point.

Hey!

A new mirror has been deployed today to Singularity today.
Everything should be configured pretty much the same as with the last mirror. Skill points from the last 6 mass tests have been re-deployed.

Hint: A mass test will probably be scheduled for next week.
