During ExileCon 2023, several of our developers gave presentations on their area of expertise in game development. We'll be publishing these talks in our news over the coming weeks, starting today with a presentation on the Bosses and Monsters of Path of Exile 2 by Game Director Mark Roberts.

In this video, Mark discusses the various aspects of boss design in Path of Exile 2, showcases some bosses from Path of Exile 2, and invites members of the audience to test their might against the bosses on stage. Check it out below!

Our Senior Narrative Designer, Matt, has taken a moment to reflect on writing for Trial of the Ancestors. Here are his thoughts.



Ah, 3.22, the Trial of the Ancestors league. This one was a doozy, let me tell you. We haven't been this ambitious on the story side of things since Betrayal, the first league I ever wrote for, and then later Heist. I believe those included 18 characters and 13 characters respectively split between two writers, while Trial of the Ancestors had 12 characters to be handled by just me... and the poor audio team. This was a fairly unique challenge, as we were recording a long list of characters for ExileCon's Path of Exile 2 and Mobile demos while also doing recordings for the league. There were days that we had two or even three recordings with different voice actors.

The last character for the league, Hinekora herself, was recorded the Tuesday before league launch, edited by Wednesday, and implemented swiftly after. Almost the entire... Read more

During the second week of Trial of the Ancestors, our community on Twitch has achieved so much! From Mirror drops to builds that finish maps faster than you could read this! We've gathered a few highlights in today's {LINK REMOVED}news post.

We recently attended Gamescom and PAX West, bringing over a handful of developers and of course, the Path of Exile 2 demo. Here are some photos of our booths from that trip!

We've just released the Ancestor Mystery Box, a new mystery box without duplicate microtransactions! Each of the microtransactions in this mystery box has visual behaviour that interacts with your gameplay. Check out the contents of the box in the video below!


There are 20 microtransactions that you can find in the Ancestor Mystery Box. Each of these microtransactions has a varying number of thematic variations, and you'll never receive a duplicate copy of a variation that you have already opened. For example, if you open the Starfall Harbinger Portal Effect variant of the Harbinger Portal Effect, you may later receive the Void Emperor variant, but you'll never get a duplicate Starfall one. Sometime this week, we're planning to release the 3.22.1 patch on PC. It adds a forfeit button for stalemate situations and a revive progress indicator in the Trial of the Ancestors, as well as balance changes to many Warriors and some Field Items. We've also fixed a number of bugs, and have made a change that decreases the loading screen time of town areas.

Please note that these are still subject to change prior to the patch's deployment. The 3.22.1 update on consoles will be deployed as soon as possible after its release on PC.

Trial of the Ancestor Improvements and Fixes

• Added a forfeit match button that can be used when your Ancestral Totem has been banished in stalemate situations.
  
• Added an indicator above player characters that displays your revive progress when you have been killed in a match.
  
• Added 6 new Tattoos that can be obtained in the Trial of the Ancestors.
  
• Added 2 new Field Items...
