Hello Slayers!

1.7.0 is just on the horizon, and we wanted to give you all a heads up about the end of the Faction: Past and Faction: Future skill trees.

The TL;DR

  • Faction: Past and Faction: Future will be removed from the Slayer’s Path on July 8
  • Both corresponding abilities will be deactivated

We’d like to take a moment to talk about the design behind these seasonal abilities and what they taught us.

The Original Plan

When we set out to make Infinite Radiance, we wanted to add seasonal abilities that played into the fantasy of various timelines intersecting in the Shattered Isles. The idea was to create an exciting moment in Dauntless that worked within the seasonal story we were telling.

Man, that is too real. I used to pump out art and writing in my younger days, but Fidel is right, depression is the true Behemoth.

I was diagnosed in my early 20s, Medication and activity helped a lot. Not a cure all, but it helped. I found my creativity comes and goes, but it's never truly gone.

Don't give up hope. Creativity is an elusive beast, but it will come back.

Bug 1

Behemoth bug: Stormclaw

Expected behaviour: Sometimes runs away to do a variety of ranged attacs, while other times getting close to do melee attacks.

Actual behaviour: After a certain amount of time (could be another trigger, never noticed the trigger if it is done by anything else than time) the stormclaw might start only running towards the edges of the arena to do attacks. He might even try to do melee attacks while all the way on the other side of the map, without hitting us of course. And when we get close, he runs away as soon as he can, unless we stagger him.

Reproduction rate: Not too often, but if I and my team start taking a bit of time, maybe around over a minute or two, he starts running away constantly.

Why was Chronovore made so visually simplistic? Pretty much just a body and a tail and no other parts really stand out, no unique effects to indicate different states/attacks or anything. We feel that Chronovore is one of the more unique creatures we've designed. The combination of jellyfish and mataray is very strange and unlike any other in our opinion.

I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

Our narrative designer is always inputing on armour designs and they reflect a lot of the current lore that's happening behind the scenes. Stay tuned!

Not at the moment, but we know it is the most simple compared to the other Escas we launched.

  1. We would love to do another one in the future when we have the bandwidth. We're experimenting with some other story telling options right now. We're currently working on a 3 part lore blog with illustrations that leads up to Thunderdeep.
