With 1.6.3 out the door, we thought it would be a good time for a developer AMA.

We'll be here between 4PM PT to 5PM PT to answer as many questions as we can about Dauntless.

Yes! I have an update for Omnicells that I plan on getting in this week.

I'm also working on updates for the Weapon Work and some other items.

I think the next BIG update will be once we're midway through the Heroes of Ostia season. At that time, we'll be comfortable sharing more information on the next season of content.

That being said, I noticed that you are planning to work on the next two seasons. Is there any discussion about working on the primal and elder behemoths with their mechanics and armor? I know that was something people wanted addressed.

Also you said that you wanted to put portals on ice. Does this mean that they won't be released on June 3 as shown in the roadmap? What features do you plan on adding that will make portals more enjoyable?

Finally I can't wait for the return of Thunderdeep. Will it get a makeover like Skraev did or eventually become its own behemoth? I love that more shock behemoths are getting introduced since there are less of them than others, so I hope this means variants down the line for shock.

Looking forward to more and hope you answer most of my questions.

The current plan for Primals/Elders is to have them live in Paradox Breaks only. I know their creator wants to polish a few things in the future when she finds time.

Portals will not be launching on June 3. We aren't comfortable with its current state at this time.

Drask is getting a full makeover, and it's looking amazing!

Yup! Not sure about the weapons, but we're working on some armour pieces now. They're like a variation of the current Drask armour

Welcome to another edition of State of Dauntless. This one’s big! We’ll be discussing our developer pipeline, release schedule, and how these things impact feature polish and future iterations. We want to explain how we used to look at content releases pre-Reforged and how we’ve changed post-Reforged.

Let’s get into it!

How We Used to Launch Content

Historically, we always aimed for large content drops with a ton of features all at once, but it meant they were spread far apart on the calendar. An example of this would be each Escalation launch. Let’s look at 1.3.0 for example. This patch saw a new Behemoth, Escalation environment, Hunt Pass, Slayer Journal, and the Training Grounds. It was a patch packed to the brim with content, but then we did not have another large content patch until 1.4.0. As you see their having a hard time making and working on the current game. Even then unless they face lift graphics and abit of gameplay it is what it is. Not to mention what is the point of upgrading to UE5 while nothing is happening major now?

Hey everyone!

A lot to discuss here. I'm currently working on a State of Dauntless post that digs into our developer pipeline. Should be out later this week and has a lot of information on how the sausage gets made.

We've been seeing a lot of players assuming that the Dauntless team has shrunk, but in reality, it's the same size as it's peak. The composition is a bit different, but we're still committed to developing Dauntless for the years to come. Heck, we're still hiring for the Dauntless team!

It's true we're making new games, but our studio has grown a ton since we started that effort so we can maintain momentum on Dauntless.

Anyways, stay tuned for the next State of Dauntless post which will dig into things like cadence, polish, and the current seasonal structure.

Nice idea. Maybe the person putting the stones into the device gets something depending on how well the event went? Like did you slay the first behemoth only, or the first two, or all three?

edit: there is some difference, before I try that at the loading screen says "Attempting Automatic Login" and now it says "Logging into Dauntless" but the error not appearing

Sending in the request is your best choice. They'll look into it for you :)

PHXL has said in the past they are unwilling to do anything of the sort due to the legal hurdles involved in implementing such cosmetics.

Also, there's a chance the perception would be "PHX is outsourcing work from its fans for free" and we really don't want to do that. It's a fun idea, but has a ton of hurdles, unfortunately.

I'm currently wondering if a live stream with a concept artist would be a fun middle ground. Players get to throw suggestions in the chat and watch us bring them to life.
