I think the biggest advice I can give from the angle of coming from wow, is to take your time and set yourself goals as you go. Wow has incentive to get to the endgame and while there is endgame in RuneScape there isn't a requirement to get there as soon as possible.
Find your pace and work towards whatever goals interest you at that time. Personally I like to set a larger overarching goal like "complete X quest" and then dealing with the tangents I run off on are the fun for me.
