Hi, sorry if this isn't clearer in the blog. The intention from our side is that solo play will be possible if you'd rather a crew of NPCs instead of real people. This bit was mentioned as an FAQ in the blog:

"We'd like to make it possible for NPCs to navigate boats or be part of your crew so that players who do not want to engage in group play don't have to.

Group play should be a positive player choice and not something you're forced into for training the skill. So, we remain aware that locking the best training methods behind group play will not be received positively."

Thanks for the tag. I've looked at our internal documentation and the table in the blog is what matches the internal doc, so I would say use the table on the blog rather than the graphic for now.

I'll double-check with the team tomorrow to be 100% sure. We can easily get the graphic amended if that was incorrect. Apologies for the inconvenience it has been quite a tight turnaround to get all materials to you in good time!

The possibilities of Sailing are really endless.

A big benefit of creating a new skill is that it constantly grows and gets improved upon post-release, so an underwater expansion is definitely within the realm of possibility and fits thematically with Sailing. If it’s something players really want, of course.

At the moment all of the Sailing mechanics are going to be on the Ocean (not underwater), as it’s not “diving”, so I don’t think underwater mechanics would form part of the core navigational design of the skill, — but it’s very open ended, so it all depends on your feedback and what players tell us about how they want the skill shaped up to be. ☺️

I’m so happy to hear you’re excited about refinement, I am eagerly anticipating what people will say when they read the blog and see the prototype! ❤️

Let's gooo! ⛵⛵ Very excited to hear what you all think following the Twitch stream, planned for Monday 15th.

We had a Discord Stage today to explain our approach to the navigational mechanics of the Sailing skill and it seemed to go down well. I'll try and get it uploaded to YouTube like last time.

Here's what we've got planned next week:

  • Monday - Show you a Prototype Demo via Twitch (feat. members of our engine team)
    • (Purely tech and doesn't cover graphics or core gameplay)
  • Tuesday (tenatively) - We hope to publish the navigation design blog, including more detail for you to leave feedback.
  • Wednesday - It's likely this day will be focused on looking at initial community feedback and discussing it with the team. Not sure yet.
  • Thursday/Friday - If possible, we will seek to update our plans swiftly following your feedback.

They're in addition to most of the time.

Some of the benefits of using this platform from my perspective:

- Relatively easy to organise (Dev & CM can set this up ourselves and we don't rely on getting time from our livestream team)
- Highly relevant for the people in that server
- Allow players to raise hand and speak directly with devs
- They give more opportunity for staff who don't want to be on cam/livestream, or a good stepping stone into communicating with players if they are shy about doing so
- Generally very cosy vibes, players seem to be a bit more polite/respectful in chat as it's more 1-1 and feels more intimate

There's still some things to work out with it though

Hey!

If you're listening in, you'll notice that Mod Husky is cut off at various points due to technical issues, which aren't obvious in the recorded version uploaded on YouTube. Please note, the audio was an issue on the live version of the call (in Discord) but it is not present in the playback version. This is because we used a Discord Bot to record the session and that seems to have picked up Mod Husky's voice just fine. Nevertheless, we hope you enjoy. This is our second time trialing out Discord Stages!
